We've done our best to build a volunteer listing creation process for you that
is both easy to use and flexible enough to accommodate your individual
design requirements. Using any new system for the first time is
often a challenge. We're here to help. Please feel free to call
our HelpDesk and we'll walk you through the process over the phone or answer
any of your questions.
- Please prepare the text of your listing in a word processing
program first (e.g. Word, WordPerfect). Don't worry about
formatting -- the complete text is most important. This will
save time and possible problems later.
- Go to the Advertiser Log-in
page
- Enter your email address and password and click the "Log-in" button.
If you have forgotten your log-in information, use the password reminder service to reset it.
- When you are logged in to the "My Desk" screen, click the "Create Volunteer Opprtunity" link.
- Choose a language for your listing -- "English",
"French", or "Bilingual" and click the
"Next" button.
- Fill in the Listing Options information
Required fields are marked
with a red asterix (*).
All other fields are optional. If you have questions about an field, just click the Question
icon (?).
If you plan to create other listings where many of the settings will be the same (e.g. always in the same location or always the same type of volunteer opportunity), use the "Save as default" tool so that you don't have to make the selections the next time.
Here's a summary of the Listing Options fields:
Listing Start Date: When do you want the listing to appear on the site?
Application Deadline: By what date do you want to hear from interested volunteers? If you have an ongoing opening, set the deadline to the maximum of 90 days.
Opportunity Title: What's the name of the opportunity? (e.g. Friendly Visitor, Board Treasurer)
Logos: Upload your organization's logo and add it to your listings by checking the checkbox to the left of the logo image.
Opportuntiy Duration: How long will you need this volunteer? (one day or less, short term, long term, ongoing)
Opportunity Type: What are the key types of things that this volunteer will be doing? Select up to 4 categories. To select more than one option, hold down the CRTL key while clicking (CMD+ click for Macs).
Great For: Is this opportunity appropriate for any of these special categories of volunteers (e.g. students, groups, people with a disability)? If so, highlight the appropriate categories here. If it's "great for" anyone, leave this category blank.
Region: Where will the volunteer perform his or her duties? Select the region(s) where the opportunity is located. DO NOT select regions where you want to promote your opening. If the opportunity is virtual (web-based), select "Flexible". If the opportunity is international, select "International" and enter city/country information in the "Location Detail" field.
Location Postal Code: Enter the postal code of the location where the volunteer will perform his or her duties. It defaults to your office postal code. If the opportunity takes place in multiple locations, separate the postal codes by comma. If the opportunity is virtual, enter H0H 0H0.
Location Detail: If you have selected a general region (e.g. "ON - Central", use this field to clarify the city (e.g. Barrie).
Once you've filled in the form, click the "Next"

Don't forget to add contact information for how interested volunteers should reach you here.

button.
- Preview. This is how your listing will look
when it goes live on the site. Please review it carefully to
make sure that you have everything correct (mistyped fax numbers and email addresses
are the most common mistake).
If you are posting a bilingual listing, you will be able
to preview the French version by clicking on the "Switch Language" link at the top of the page.
If you need to edit anything, scroll down to the bottom of the
page and click the "Back", "Edit Listing Info" or "Edit Listing Description" buttons.

good, click the "Publish Now" button
If you want to save the listing and submit it later, click the "Publish Later" button to save it to the Drafts folder on your Desk. You can submit it anytime.
- Yes, publish now. Click the confirmation button to publish your listing to the live site.
- When your listing is processed, you'll receive a confirmation message with a link to your listing and back to your desk.

posting an ad, please contact your local HelpDesk Manager. |
