Meet Marina Dawson

Having spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector, it is fitting that Marina found her way to the CharityVillage team. She began her administrative coordination work with the YWCA of Vancouver, working in a federally funded employment service program for youth, and more recently worked for the BC SPCA, first as a receptionist and then in the fundraising department. She has experienced many aspects of the nonprofit world, working both in office administration and fundraising, and also in her eight years as a volunteer Big Sister.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Marina is married to her wonderful husband Mike, and has two stepdaughters, Ashley and Kimberly. She is a passionate advocate for animal welfare and environmental issues, and has been a proud guardian of a vast number of animals throughout her life, including dogs, cats, horses, and hamsters. She currently shares her home with a very active Lab/Shepherd puppy named Abbey Road, who was proudly adopted from the local animal shelter. With a wide array of interests, she also finds time to indulge in her love of music, the written word, and the dramatic arts. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts with a major in English, and also has a keen interest in mythology, history, and animal behaviour. She counts Dr. Jane Goodall as her personal hero.
