Here's a quick, step-by-step guide to creating a job ad at CharityVillage.com.
From Main Street, click on the Advertisers link in "Login" section.
If you aren't registered yet, please register as an advertiser first.
1. Enter your email address.
2. Enter your password.
3. Click the "Log In" button.
If you've forgotten your password, click the "Forgot Password?" link.
From the "Listings" tab on your desk, click Create "Job Ad".
1. Select the language for your listing.
Important: If you want to create your job in both French and English, use the Bilingual form to avoid being billed for two listings instead of one.
Note: If you regularly create listings in the same language, select the language you prefer, then click the orange "Save as default" menu and click the "Save as default setting" link. Next time you create a listing, we'll have saved your favourite selection.
2. Click "Next".
The "Listing Options" tab is broken into 5 sections.
- Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*)
- Use the "Save as default" menus to remember your favourite settings for next time.
Listing Information section:
1. Listing Start Date: This is the date that your listing will be visible to users on the site. It defaults to today but you can set it to a future date as well.
2. Application Deadline: This is the last day that applicants can apply for the position. Your listing will be removed from public view at the end of the application deadline date. The application deadline can be a maximum of 60 days from the listing start date.
3. Job Title: The job title or request for proposal title. Note: please check the accuracy of the title. You will not be able to edit it after the listing is published.
Organization Information section:
4. Employer Name: defaults to your organization's name, but you can change it if needed.
- If you are a recruiter or consultant, enter the client's organization as the employer name
- If you want to run a confidential ad, click the "confidential" check box and we'll hide the employer name and your logo(s) from job seekers.
5. Applicants quote job #: if you have an internal reference number for the position, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this field blank.
6. Your Purchase Order #: if you require a P.O. number on your invoice, enter it here. Otherwise, leave this field blank
Scroll down to the next section.
If you have a logo on file, add it to your listings by checking the checkbox to the left of the logo image.
If you want to upload a new logo, click the "Upload new Logo" button and follow the instructions from there, or check out our tutorial.
Scroll down to the next section.
1. Position Type: Select the employment type for this opening (e.g. full time, part time contract etc.)
2. Job Category: Select up to four categories to describe your opening. To select multiple categories, hold down the CTRL key while clicking (CMD+ click for Macs).
3. Career Level: Select the appropriate career level for the opening.
4. Salary Range: Select a low and high salary range for the position and click the checkbox to display the salary range on the listing. If the rate is hourly or other, enter the hourly wage in the box below the salary range checkbox. You can also add additional salary details and information about benefits in the job description later.
Scroll down to the next section.
1. Region: Where will the person sit at their desk? Select the region(s) where the opportunity is located. DO NOT select regions where you want to promote the opening. If the position is home-based, select "Flexible". If the opening is international, select "International" and enter city/country information in the "Location Detail" field.
2. Location Postal Code: Enter the postal code of the location where the opportunity is located. It defaults to your office postal code. If you have an opening for multiple locations, separate the postal codes by comma. If the location is flexible, enter H0H 0H0.
3. Location Detail: If you have selected a general region (e.g. "ON - Central",) use this field to clarify the location for job seekers (e.g. Barrie).
1. Enter the job description and contact information
Copy and paste or type your job description into the form. Use the edit tools to update the look of your description.
Don't forget to add contact information for how candidates should reach you to apply.
2. Once you've filled in the form, click the "Next" button.
We don't stream in contact information automatically, so please make sure that you include application instructions (email, web, postal, or fax address) in the listing description. We'll remind you about it once before you preview your listing.
If you've forgotten to include contact info, click "No, go back".
If you have included contact info, click "Yes, preview".
The listing preview shows exactly how your ad will look when it goes live on the site. Please review it carefully to make sure that you have everything correct (mistyped fax numbers and email addresses are the most common mistake).
If you are posting a bilingual job listing, you will be able to preview the French version by clicking on the "Switch Language" link at the top of the page.
If you need to fix anything, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Back", "Edit Listing Info" or "Edit Listing Description" buttons.
If you want to save the listing and submit it later, click the "Publish Later" button to save it to your Desk. You can submit it anytime from your desk.
If the ad looks good, click the "Publish Now" button.
You will see the title of your job ad listed as well as the price.
If you would like to create another ad before placing your order, click the "Create Another Job Ad" link and repeat the steps above as needed.
If everything looks okay, click the "Next" button to proceed to the payment section.
1. Review your billing contact information. Invoices and receipts arrive by email so please make sure that the billing contact email address is accurate. If you need to change any billing contact information or add a new contact, click the "Change" button.
2. Select your desired payment type (Credit Card or Invoice Me) and fill in the appropriate information.
3. When you're ready to submit your order, click the "Place Order" button. Transactions can take up to 2 minutes to process (but are usually much faster!), so thanks for your patience.
If you choose to have us invoice you, instead of paying by credit card, here's how the screen will appear.
Again, please double check your billing contact e-mail address, then click the "Place Order" button.
That's all there is to it!
When your order is processed, you'll receive a confirmation message with a link to your invoice. We'll also email a copy of the invoice to your desired billing contact.
We will approve your ad within one business day (and normally much faster than that!) and send a confirmation message when it is live on the site.
Again, if you have any questions about posting an ad, please contact your local HelpDesk Manager.
