Tutorial type: Video  |  PDF

Learn how to create a great volunteer listing in less than 10 minutes!

Let's get going...

From Main Street, click on the Advertisers link in "Login" section.

If you aren't registered yet, please register as an advertiser first.

1. Enter your email address.

2. Enter your password.

3. Click the "Log In" button.

If you've forgotten your password, click the "Forgot Password?" link.

Create a Volunteer Listing

From the "Listings" tab on your desk, click Create "Volunteer Listing."

Language

1. Select the language for your listing.

Note: If you regularly create listings in the same language, select the language you prefer, then click the orange "Save as default" menu and click the "Save as default setting" link. Next time you create a listing, we'll have saved your favourite selection.

2. Click "Next".

Listing Options Tab: Listing Information

The "Listing Options" tab is broken into 4 sections.

- Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*)
- Use the "Save as default" menus to remember your favourite settings for next time.

Listing Information section:

1. Listing Start Date: When do you want the listing to appear on the site?

2. Application Deadline: By what date do you want to hear from interested volunteers? If you have an ongoing opening, set the deadline to the maximum of 90 days.

3. Opportunity Title: What's the name of the opportunity? (e.g. Friendly Visitor, Board Treasurer)

4. Organization Name: This field defaults to your organization's name, but you can change it as needed.

Listing Options Tab: Logos

If you have a logo on file, add it to your listings by checking the checkbox to the left of the logo image.

If you want to upload a new logo, click the "Upload new Logo" button and follow the instructions from there.

Scroll down to the next section.

Listing Options Tab: Opportunity Information

1. Opportunity Duration: How long will you need this volunteer? (one day or less, short term, long term, ongoing)

2. Opportunity Type: What are the key types of things that this volunteer will be doing? To select more than one option, hold down the CRTL key while clicking (CMD+ click for Macs).

3. Great For: Is this opportunity appropriate for any of these special categories of volunteers (e.g. students, groups, people with a disability)? If so, highlight the appropriate categories here. If it's "great for" anyone, leave this category blank.

Listing Options Tab: Opportunity Location

1. Region: Where will the volunteer perform his or her duties? Select the region(s) where the opportunity is located. DO NOT select regions where you want to promote your opening. If the opportunity is virtual (web-based), select "Flexible". If the opportunity is international, select "International" and enter city/country information in the "Location Detail" field.

2. Location Postal Code: Enter the postal code of the location where the volunteer will perform his or her duties. It defaults to your office postal code. If the opportunity takes place in multiple locations, separate the postal codes by comma. If the opportunity is virtual/home-based, enter H0H 0H0.

3. Location Detail: If you have selected a general region (e.g. "ON - Central", use this field to clarify the city (e.g. Barrie).

4. Click the "Next" button.

Listing Description

1. Enter the volunteer opportunity description and contact information
Copy and paste or type your opportunity description into the form. Use the edit tools to update the look of your description.

Don't forget to add contact information for how potential volunteers should reach you to apply.

2. Once you've filled in the form, click the "Next" button.

Confirm that you've added contact information

We don't stream in contact information automatically, so please make sure that you include application instructions (email, web, postal, or fax address) in the listing description. We'll remind you about it once before you preview your listing.

If you've forgotten to include contact info, click "No, go back".

If you have included contact info, click "Yes, preview".

Listing Preview

The listing preview shows exactly how your ad will look when it goes live on the site. Please review it carefully to make sure that you have everything correct (mistyped fax numbers and email addresses are the most common mistake).

If you are posting a bilingual listing, you will be able to preview the French version by clicking on the "Switch Language" link at the top of the page.

If you need to fix anything, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Back", "Edit Listing Info" or "Edit Listing Description" buttons.

If you want to save the listing and submit it later, click the "Publish Later" button to save it to your Desk. You can submit it anytime from your desk.

If the ad looks good, click the "Publish Now" button.

Yes, publish now

We don't review volunteer or event listings before they are published for users to see.

Click "Yes, publish now" to publish your listing to the live site.

If you want to save and publish it later, click "Cancel".

Order Confirmation

From the Order Confirmation page, you can:

• Create another volunteer opportunity
• Go back to your Desk
• See your listing on the site

Just click the link that suits you and that's all there is to it!
