The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, was on hand at the MaRS Social Finance Forum today to officially launch the federal government's call for concepts for social finance. In Minister Finley's words: "I am inviting organizations and individuals from across the country to help our Government take the next step by bringing their best ideas forward. Whether they are high level concepts or detailed proposals, the goal is to help identify future partners and inform how we can shape our existing programs to better support social innovation."
The program's website indicates that submissions do not need to be a fully developed paper; instead, simply “sketch out” your concept by completing the online questionnaire or attaching a document describing your concept. The purpose of the call for submissions is to discover concepts for social innovations and social finance which have the potential to:
- Address a social challenge and unmet social needs
- Feature services producing measurable results
- Generate savings and/or benefits for governments
- Attract non-government investors
The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2012, and excerpts from submissions may be chosen randomly and posted online. A report summarizing the results of our analysis of the submissions will be prepared and will be made available to the public in Winter 2013. For more information visit www.hrsdc.gc.ca.
