As VTN’s Development Officer you you will be responsible for planning and implementing strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization, manage donor relationships and stewardship, and create organizational policies and procedures around fundraising. The DO will act as the principal point of contact for all donor relationships of up to $50,000.

The VTN is currently expanding and all our positions have the opportunity for growth. As Development Officer you will have opportunities to further develop your skills, take on greater responsibility and progress in both job title and salary.

Community Fundraising:

  • Work with the Marketing Coordinator to create guidelines for community fundraisers
  • Support and oversee community fundraising partners as required
  • Capitalize on arising opportunities and work with ambassadors to develop presentation materials
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator on fundraising campaigns


Individual Giving:

  • Identify and approach potential donors
  • Work with the Marketing Coordinator to create and run Giving Campaigns through email and social media marketing
  • Plan, execute and oversee donor and volunteer cultivation/appreciation events
  • Create and implement standards for individual donor stewardship, ensuring year-round follow-up, engagement and stewardship of individual donors


Corporate and Foundation Relations:

  • Conduct grant and sponsorship research
  • Write and submit grant proposals to charitable foundations, corporate sponsors, and provincial and federal government
  • Write and submit funding reports
  • Work with the Marketing Coordinator to fulfill sponsorship requirement and recognition, including communications such as social media and press releases


Development Admin:

  • Implement and maintain the use of Client Relationship Management software system
  • Ensure accurate data entry to grow the existing donor database and email distribution
  • Produce reports regarding fundraising campaigns
  • Manage data entry and development of donor database and email distribution
  • Attend quarterly Board meetings (if applicable)
  • Create and/or update fundraising policies and procedures
  • Create and/or update a VTN development officer manual


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience in development/fundraising role with a non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, non-profit studies or other relevant field
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain a detail-oriented approach
  • Proficiency with CRM software
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • High ethical standards


Assets (non-mandatory but preferred):

  • Masters in communications, marketing, non-profit studies or other relevant field
  • Bilingual (English and French writing/speaking)
