POSITION TITLE: TEACHER - WLC
POSITION REPORTS TO: Program Manager
POSITION HOURS: Part Time Contract - Immediate to June 26th, 2020 (2 days/week)- hours may increase based on student/staffing needs
START DATE: Immediate
The Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of educational programs for students with Autism in the Woodview Learning Centre. The Teacher designs academic programs for students based on the assessment of individual student academic abilities and needs. The Teacher provides training, guidance and support to parents and Instructors. Responsibilities include student academic assessment, meeting with parents and staff to address student academic needs, the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and planning an academic program for students based on the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. The position will involve teaching students in a small classroom when needed. The applicant needs to be a motivated individual with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students to love learning.
Skills and Knowledge:
1. An undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
2. A Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent from a recognized University.
3. Membership in the Ontario College of Teachers – must be in “good standing” with dues paid.
4. Educational background in Special Education by completion of additional qualifications in Special Education.
5. Experience and knowledge of best educational practices for students with Autism gained either by additional qualifications in Autism or several years’ experience with students with Autism.
6. Sound knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum.
7. Extensive experience in the modification of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum to meet the individual needs of students with Autism.
8. Experience in assessment of student needs, program development, curriculum modification, and implementation IEPs.
9. A sound understanding of child development and the impact of Autism on the development of cognitive, social and academic skills in school-aged children with Autism.
10. Knowledge and understanding of psychological testing and a variety of academic assessments to be able to use information found in psychological reports, IEPs and report cards to develop an academic program for clients.
11. Experience in training, assisting and managing personnel in the delivery of academic goals and modification of programs for students with Autism.
12. Must be able to manage time effectively and work under pressure during certain times of the year (August/September start of school, October IEP meetings and IEP report writing).

1. Flexible hours are required, especially during specific times as noted above.
2. Ability to meet competing deadlines and work well under pressure with attention to detail.
3. The incumbent may be required to work within a variety of milieus, including within the communities.
4. Manual dexterity and computer sills will be required to use a computer to research and write reports.
5. Current police/vulnerable check required.
