A national not-for-profit professional association seeks a motivated and enthusiastic event and communications coordinator to cover a mat leave vacancy for a period of 18 months beginning April 1, 2019. There is the potential for ongoing employment at the end of the contract term for the right candidate.

The ideal person to join our small and talented team at our central Mississauga office is

  • Completely fluent in both spoken and written English;
  • Comfortable juggling multiple competing priorities in any given day;
  • A strong user of Microsoft Office applications – particularly Word and Excel;
  • Able to work independently with little supervision, and equally capable of working as part of a team;
  • Eager to learn about what we do and why we do it;
  • Highly adaptable and open to new challenges and opportunities;
  • Able to travel within Canada.

Other skills and attributes that would be considered an asset for this position include:

  • Good writing skills;
  • A solid knowledge of social media and its application for business;
  • Previous experience in supporting and coordinating events and meetings;
  • Previous experience in the not-for-profit or charity sector;
  • Basic website updating skills (WordPress)

The Events and Communications Coordinator provides support for a wide range of educational conferences and workshops held across Canada. Duties can include (but are not limited to) liaising with vendors (AV, hotel, catering, etc), maintaining schedules, CE accreditation, liaising with speakers and sponsors, ensuring that deadlines are met, etc. This is a fast-paced job and requires a high degree of accuracy and organization. Some travel may be required.

In addition, the Events and Communications Coordinator compiles and monitors the annual communications calendar and ensures that deadlines are met. Using Constant Contract and SurveyMonkey, the Events and Communications Coordinator creates email broadcasts and surveys for distribution to members and event attendees.
