Youth in Transition Program Manager and Volunteer Coordinator – Short version

StepStones for Youth (www.stepstonesforyouth.com) is currently seeking a program manager to support the Youth in Transition and Mentoring Program.  This program supports youth leaving the foster care and group home system and youth in transition from their family home.  The program connects youth to adult mentors and offers support with education, employment, housing, finances, mental health, community connections, workshops and provides resources and opportunities to learn valuable life skills in a safe, supportive, and positive environment.  

This position involves working with youth exiting the foster care and group home system, supporting staff, screening and training volunteers, conducting program evaluation, reporting to funding agencies, developing and ensuring the program is consistent with the strategic framework of the organization and remains high impact and efficient. 

Job Summary

We are seeking an individual with training and experience working with marginalized youth who have lived in custodial care arrangements and/or who have minimal levels of support in their lives.  This individual will also have experience supervising staff in these environments.   

The successful candidate will be able to support and coach Youth in Transition Workers in their creative, patient, and persistent outreach and explore with workers all options to support youth.  We take a "whatever it takes" approach to servicing youth and go above and beyond to support their needs.   

The successful candidate will have strong and developed assessment and clinical skills to support staff in their roles.

The candidate will have up-to-date knowledge of relevant community support resources and create effective working relationships with key partners to promote a responsive and supportive approach.

This position will assist in the collection and presentation of program statistical information, funding efforts, and on-going documentation when required.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree (BA, BSW, MSW) in a social science field related to this position and experience working with marginalized youth;
  • 7+ years of experience working with youth who are considered high risk and vulnerable;
  • Extensive knowledge of Adolescent Development, Community Outreach, Engagement Strategies for marginalized youth;
  • 2+ experience managing staff working with high-risk populations;
  • Strong Communication and Organizational skills;
  • Sensitivity to race, culture, religion, and sexual orientation, and experience working with a diverse population;
  • Knowledge of related resources available within the Greater Toronto community including Children’s Aid;
  • Experience in negotiating with other services and advocating on behalf of youth;
  • Computer and data entry skills;
  • Competence in program evaluations and reporting;
  • Extensive knowledge of child protection services and foster care resources

Specific Duties Related to Program Delivery:

  • Correspond and manage relationships with service providers & partner organizations
  • Advocate to increase community supports available to youth transitioning out of care;
  • Gather and record monthly statistics generated from routine documentation;
  • Develop, evaluate, ensure impact and support programs:
  • Compile and report on stats from the program and analyze youth outcomes;
  • Arrange and complete referral source presentations and outreach;
  • ensure the YIT mentoring program facilitates the development of leadership, life sklls, communication, confidence and community relations skills;
  • ensure the YIT mentoring program provides support around housing, finances and budgeting, educational attainment, healthy living, and goal setting and provides direct assistance in these areas;

Youth in Transition Worker Supervision:

  • Provide On-going weekly clinical case management supervision;
  • Review supervision notes, evaluate worker progress, review reporting documentation
  • Organize and lead monthly team meetings
  • Organize and lead monthly clinical supervision case conferencing with the team
  • Consult with staff throughout the week regarding ongoing cases.
  • Establish good lines of communication and timely communications with staff.

Program Development:

  • Support the completion of applications for funding from the government, charitable and private organizations related to program
  • Report on program outcomes to funding agencies including ensuring grant compliance
  • Support advocacy work for youth leaving care, developing and maintaining relationships with organizations and supporting the work of the ED in this area
  • manage the day-to-day program finances including worker spending is within necessary perimeter’s and ensuring operations are within budget;
  • Respond to email requests from emergency grant requests and contact the emergency committee to alert them of these requests
  • Ensure all program evaluations are up to date and accurate

Volunteer Management:

  • Recruit, train, screen and support volunteer onboarding and support workers with the matching process 
  • Schedule, set interviews, trouble-shoot online registration

Hours:

In general, the successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm.  There will be 3-4 shifts monthly from 1-9pm (to accommodate evening workshops and mentor training) instead of 10am-6pm and 2-3 Saturdays per year.  However, there will need to be flexible depending on the needs of the youth.   

Salary:

This is full-time position:

Salary: $60,000-70,000
