The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board is seeking a temporary full-time Supervisor of Student Services for a 12 month contract.  The purpose of the Supervisor of Student Services role is to oversee the promotion of equity for all students to benefit from the Boards academic program, and to ensure educational and personal growth of students who are experiencing personal, social and/or behavioural challenges


  • Works directly with Superintendent of Special Education and Principals with respect to all aspects of assessment, group counselling, individual counselling, parent/guardian and educational staff meetings, crisis intervention and links with the community agencies.
  • Assists school personnel and family members in understanding their child’s difficulties, exceptionalities and needs; assist parents/guardians in accessing appropriate community resources.
  • Aids in building the capacity of Board staff in the areas of learning mental health and behavior disorders via presentations, workshops, etc. as required.
  • Supervises the clinical work of Social Workers and Speech and Language Pathologists, setting standards for professional practice, attending case conferences, and providing direction for individual cases to ensure that standards, quality of service and ethical practices are maintained in their service for the Board.
  • Coordinates social work services across the system.
  • Works with the Board’s Mental Health Lead on universal programming to promote equity for all students.
  • Supervises Speech and Language Pathologists and aid in the facilitation of speech and language services in the Board.
  • Provides assessment, therapeutic interventions, counseling, and advocacy with various parties, and referrals to community agencies.
  • Liaises with community service providers to ensure committee membership, networking and consultation on cases.
  • Consults and work closely with board Mental Health Lead and/or Wellness Coordinator in facilitating and implementing mental health and well-being initiatives and projects.
  • Coordinates, manages and leads the Board’s Crisis Response Team in responding to school and Board crises, and developing structured responses to support school and Board staff, alleviate trauma and prevent further crisis for students, parents and families and school and Board employees.
  • Provides professional development, in-service and training to school and Board employees, students and their parents and families by developing and delivering workshops, programs, training opportunities and presentations to enhance their understanding of and responses to student learning and mental health needs.
  • Assumes other responsibilities, as assigned.


 The following are the minimum requirements of this position.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may also apply.

  • Masters of Social Work is required.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Social Workers.
  • Experience with school aged children, youth and their families; conducting assessments and providing programming recommendations.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a Social Worker with minimum one (1) year clinical experience.
  • Certification in Behaviour Management Systems or Non-violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent.
  • Experience with supervision is an asset.
