Department: The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF)
Reports to: Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Hours: 35 hours per week
Status: Permanent full-time, must be flexible to work additional hours as required

The PMCF raises funds for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, to deliver future care now. For more than a decade, The PMCF has been on an aggressive growth trajectory. In 2017, we raised $112 million—our best year ever and we are on track to raise even more in 2018.

Setting daring and audacious goals is a mindset that is driven by PMCF’s culture and passion to perform. We have pioneered many successful fundraising programs, including our world-leading Princess Margaret Home Lottery, and some of the world’s largest cancer fundraising events, including:

The PMCF has a strong track record of securing and stewarding major and estate gifts. We engage our supporters through annual campaigns, leadership and tribute giving, and more than 100 community events and ethnocultural programs.
Through our diverse and complementary portfolio of fundraising events, we attract over 300,000 gifts, 250,000 unique lottery purchasers, and 15,000 event participants and volunteers each year. And we engage with hundreds of corporate partners and their employees.

The PMCF has a distinguished board that engages in fundraising, and provides governance and support through a number of very active committees. Princess Margaret is a proud member of University Health Network, Canada’s largest research hospital network, which also includes Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehab Institute and The Michener Institute for Education.

As an integral member of the senior management team for the Foundation, the responsibilities of the Director of Finance include: supporting the Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Foundation and manage a team of staff that provides day to day management of Foundation’s financial operations and budgetary controls ; management of all internal and external financial reporting and compliance; ensure effective cash management and control transfer of funds; ensuring effective and efficient management of financial systems; responsibility for the timely and accurate completion of the audit and managing enterprise risk management process; providing support for senior volunteers and other senior management as requested; performing other responsibilities consistent with the position and cross functional responsibilities as requested. In addition, PMCF currently provides financial management support for the American Friends of UHN (AFUHN) and the duties and responsibilities will extend for both PMCF and AFUHN.


  • A recognized professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA) is required
  • Master in Business Administration is preferred
  • Ten (10) years related experience in a large organization required
  • Preference in the Not for Profit or service sectors desired
  • Successful management of accounting, financial reporting and budgeting function required
  • Project management and special project management experience required
  • Experience interacting with and presenting to senior management and Board Committees
  • A proven track record of creating and maintaining high performing teams
  • Exceptional service orientation and strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills required
  • Excellent analytical, problem recognition and creative problem solving skills with a proven ability to take initiative and embrace challenges required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft applications and conversant in computer based systems for budgeting and management reporting required
  • Excellent mentoring and team building skills
  • Demonstrated co-ordination, negotiation, conflict management skills
  • Excellent ability to manage complex relationships required
  • Excellent decision making skills with the ability to form and defend independent judgments required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required to meet deadlines required
  • Current knowledge of accounting principles, methodology and standards required
  • Ability to effectively handle a large number of issues simultaneously required
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure/stressful conditions required
  • Ability to work as a team member and influence others and outcomes required
  • Must be change orientated and possess an attitude of continuous improvement required
  • Must be a self-starter, creative and innovative
