 Job Posting – Facilities Caretaker and Maintenance Coordinator

We are currently seeking a Facilities Caretaker and Maintenance Coordinator. This full-time position reports to the Manager, Finance & Administration of St. Clement’s Church.

Terms:

Compensation package: Competitive Salary, Pension and Benefits.

Days:  Sunday through Thursday

Hours: 8-hour day/40-hour week; 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Exceptions:  Occasional evening events; occasional events on Sunday (e.g. Vestry – Annual Meeting)

Purpose of the Position:

The primary role of the Facilities Caretaker and Maintenance Coordinator (Custodian) is the caretaking and regular custodial servicing of the church building and grounds.  The role includes but is not limited to cleaning; monitoring the heating and cooling systems, emergency equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems and lighting; and ensuring regular maintenance of all such systems.  The Custodian enhances the parish life of St. Clement’s through caretaking and maintaining all internal and external aspects of Church with attentiveness to the various groups using the church buildings. The Custodian works closely with the Manager, Finance & Administration and the Chair of the Property Committee to address, manage and resolve any issues that may arise on an ongoing basis and to plan proactively for upcoming scheduled maintenance and cleaning work. All work activities must be carried out in a manner consistent with St. Clement’s Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives. All diocesan and parish policies and practices must be understood and adhered to, including in particular the Diocese of Toronto’s Sexual Misconduct and Screening Policies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Church buildings are clean at all times
  • Implement and maintain maintenance schedules for all building systems including but not limited to HVAC, Fire / Emergency, Plumbing & Electrical, Lighting, etc.
  • Implement and maintain weekly, monthly, and yearly cleaning and maintenance schedules for the building including, but not limited to: eaves-trough cleaning, window cleaning, outdoor window well cleaning, floor waxing, furniture waxing/polishing, dusting, etc.
  • Advise and assist in the management of evening and weekend custodial staff
  • Ensure removal of all weekly garbage and recycling, and that the church is following city required recycling standards
  • Attendance and assistance at festive events, and religious services including weddings and funerals may be required outside regular hours
  • Ensuring that meeting rooms are properly set up for scheduled events

Qualifications Required:

  • WHMIS and other relevant workplace certifications would be an asset
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License required

Competencies (Skills and Knowledge) & Attributes:

  • Significant level of basic repair and maintenance knowledge and skill
  • Mechanical knowledge sufficient to operate and maintain church equipment, including lawn mower, snow blower, lift, boilers, HVACs, thermostats, radiators, alarm systems, etc.
  • Willingness to learn and upgrade skills as required
  • Be familiar with trades people and companies capable of providing larger repairs and services
  • Able to complete light to medium physical duties (e.g. able to lift a 50 pound load without difficulty)
  • Organizing and managing diverse range of assignments and projects
  • Work cooperatively with other employees, volunteers and tenants of the Church
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a requirement
