Scarborough Health Network is Ontario’s third largest community hospital, with approximately 5,129 employees, 1024 physicians, and 1570 volunteers. SRH Foundation raises funds through diversified philanthropic and fundraising programs to help the hospital purchase medical and surgical equipment, expand the hospital through capital projects, and provide support for It’s Our Time Campaign.

Scarborough Health Network Foundation is seeking a Community Development Officer to join our dynamic and entrepreneurial team of fundraising professionals.

Function of Position

Reporting to the Manager of Community Development the successful candidate will lead, develop, solicit and provide support to execute signature events, third party community engagement programs and community based philanthropic councils.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, solicit and/or co-solicit patron/sponsorships corporate and local business prospects to meet the fundraising goals of the events in support of “It’s Our Time”campaign.
  • Lead and Coordinate signature events as assigned.
  • Lead SHNF Philanthropic Councils. Organizing and managing council meetings and fundraising goals. (South Asian, Chinese, Caribbean, Innovation, Community and Scarborough Women of Philanthropy Council)
  • Support and work collaboratively with the Community Development Team as required.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all information into Raiser’s Edge (training provided)
  • Attend and assist with the execution of the Scarborough Health Network event activation programs.
  • Post event follow up with Patron/Sponsors to provide stewardship and follow-up to pledge commitments.
  • Assists in other duties as required in furthering the goals of the Community Development team and the Foundation

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have Minimum College or University Degree.
  • 5-7 years of related Philanthropic event management.
  • Strong inter-personal and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function independently, and as a team member in a fast paced, demanding environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency of understanding with Excel, Word, Power Point and In-design.
  • Flexibility of hours is required, including evening and week-end hours.
  • Must have a valid G Drivers License and access to vehicle.

  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community.
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards.
