The College Student Alliance (CSA) is hiring a (32 hours/ week maternity leave) Research and Policy Analyst. CSA is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works collaboratively with post-secondary education (PSE) stakeholders and government to improve the college experience. We are an advocating voice on behalf of Ontario college students in partnership with student leaders. Job Summary

The Research & Policy Analyst is responsible for researching and developing position papers, government submissions and statements on post-secondary issues and concerns as determined by the CSA membership. The Research & Policy Analyst is responsible for primary and secondary research related to new and existing positions and concerns from a college student's perspective and on Ontario post-secondary education in general. This function includes: qualitative analysis, intelligence gathering, data collection, interpretation of data (internal and external), and information dissemination.

Reporting Relationship(s)

The Research and Policy Analyst will report directly to the General Manager. 

Essential Job Functions

Research & Policy

  1. Prioritize & research emerging post-secondary issues.
  1. Collaborate with Director of Advocacy in developing research priorities.
  2. Identify and substantiate both internal and external research on post-secondary issues as they relate specifically to Ontario college students through various activities including, but not limited to:  conducting surveys, facilitating focus groups, undertaking data analysis using software such as Excel and acquiring data and information from diverse sources.
  3. Develop researched position papers of publication quality.
  4. Work with the Communications to create print and digital versions of research and policy papers.
  5. Provide data analysis in support of research initiatives that focus on the overall goals and priorities of the CSA.
  6. Provide expertise and analysis for research initiatives by assessing requests from the membership.
  7. Develop provincial pre-budget submission research and publication.
  8. Research and analyze existing government and stakeholder position papers.
  9. Provide a synopsis of existing position papers to the membership when requested.
  10. Create summary papers for publication to the membership and CSA website.
  11. Analyze and interpret provincial and college policies and procedures.


    1. Represent CSA with partner stakeholder organizations on research related issues, consultations and committees.
    2. Provide research and emerging trends insight to membership to aid in their advocacy efforts.

Workshops & Conferences

    1. Present research analysis and publications to the membership at conferences and workshops.
    2. Develop capacity building sessions for student leaders at conferences and workshops to enhance critical thinking, analysis of information and framing problems.

Job Requirements


University degree or college diploma that utilizes analytics/quantitative research methods and statistics.


Prior experience in designing, conducting and/or presenting research, including data design, extraction, compilation, analysis and reporting of data. Higher education research experience is preferred but open to considering relevant experience as well.

Additional Information

The schedule of the Research and Policy Analyst will vary week-to-week and will be mutually decided upon between the employee and employer.
