Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley, (BBBSL) has helped build life-changing friendships between young people and our dedicated team of volunteers since 1974. We are currently seeking applications for the position of Mentoring Coordinator, with a focus on managing and supporting our group mentoring programs. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, have access to a vehicle and submit a current and clean criminal record check.

Langley and area is a vibrant community of more than 100,000 in the beautiful Fraser Valley, with a rapidly growing and changing demographic. BBBS Langley is searching for an individual who is eager to help us meet the community's developing needs.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A minimum two-year post-secondary diploma (mandatory) in child and youth care, education, psychology or a related field
  • Two years related experience
  • Have strong interviewing and assessment skills
  • Understanding of mentoring principals, practices and theory
  • Proficient in word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications and web-based tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to work in a team environment
  • Self-directed, strong time management, organizational and volunteer management skills
  • Sensitive to diversity
  • Valid driver's licence and have ongoing access to a vehicle
  • Strong desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children
  • Able to work flexible hours and evenings.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating group mentoring programs, including volunteer management and child enrollment
  • Supervising and monitoring matches and group programs to ensure Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards are maintained and the safety of children is upheld
  • Maintaining accurate family and volunteer records. Ensuring that all required documentation is complete.
  • Discussing client/program planning and concerns with the Executive Director
  • Promoting skill development among volunteers (networking groups, training workshops, etc.)
  • Referring volunteers and families to problem-solving processes where required
  • Establish and maintain relationships with schools and community centres
  • Prepare program documentation/evaluations for grant applications/reports
  • Act as a liaison between BBBSL, community agencies and stake holders
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of service delivery programs
  • Supervising practicum students
  • Making presentations to groups, including volunteer and child recruitment and training.
  • Other duties, as directed by the Executive Director, in an effort to make the operations of the agency as efficient as possible, including some fundraising support.
