ABOUT TRUE PATRIOT LOVE

Founded in 2009, True Patriot Love Foundation has become Canada’s leading organization supporting the military community. The foundation raises awareness around the challenges related to military service and funds programs for serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and their families that support their well-being, enable rehabilitation and recovery from injury, assist the children and spouses of those who serve, and promote re-integration into communities following service. Since inception, True Patriot Love has committed over $28 million in funding to 825 community-based programs across the country, which has helped change the lives of more than 30,000 military members, Veterans, and families.

THE OPPORTUITY

True Patriot Love Foundation has recently approved an ambitious new strategic plan which provides the framework for the organization’s future growth and impact. Ensuring we continue to best represent the needs of those we serve, the organization is growing its program team and is seeking an experienced and passionate Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation. This is a full-time role, based in Toronto, Ontario.

It is an exciting time to join True Patriot Love, an organization rooted in high impact community support and strong partnerships within the military, government, charitable and corporate sectors.

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the project management of the Mental Health Technology Initiative, a multi-year project funded by Veterans Affairs Canada and focused on the role of technology in the delivery of mental health programs. In addition, this role will strengthen and expand the foundation’s impact measurement and reporting protocols with community-based partners. The Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation will develop strong relationships with external community partners to monitor and evaluate program delivery and impact. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively with internal Development and Marketing teams to develop strong and compelling impact reports and proposals showcasing  True Patriot Love’s impact.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has a related university degree (e.g. Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health) coupled with 3-5 years of professional success with the activities of monitoring and evaluation in the not-for-profit sector including, but not limited to: project design, monitor and evaluation (M&E) plan development, implementation, data collection methods, analysis of quantitative and qualitative data and reporting.  With three or more years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector, the successful candidate will work closely with the Manager, Community Engagement and Research and will have a proven ability to find and leverage research and data to inform grant-making strategies and decision-making, and to develop compelling donor-friendly communications.

A strong project manager, the candidate has a track record of being able to produce high-quality work under tight, constantly changing deadlines, combined with a comfort managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. S/he has strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, excellent technical/analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and is a motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Fluency in French (verbal and written) and military experience are assets.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONISBILITY

Project Management – 50%

  • Drive the implementation of the Mental Health Technology Initiative, including project management and day to day responsibility for this key multi-stakeholder initiative.
  • Development of workback schedule with timelines and deliverables; monitoring of achievement of milestones and facilitation of Advisory Panel meetings.
  • Full administrative support for the Advisory Panel, liaison with external agencies supporting market research, preparation of interim and final reports and dissemination of findings into key stakeholders and other identified activities, as identified by the senior management team.
  • Confident coordination and implementation of outputs of a senior multidisciplinary stakeholder group.

Liaison with Community Based Program Partners – 25%

  • Day to day liaison and knowledge resource for national grantees and program partners.
  • Review and enhance the M&E process currently in place to ensure the foundation is effective in continued community investment and providing best in class stewardship and support for a broad range of stakeholders including donors, government, and community-based partners. Periodically review and revise the process and related documents to adapt to changing internal and external contexts.
  • Collection of program information both to inform grant decisions and to ensure accountability and impact assessment on grants made.
  • Develop a strong and deep understanding of True Patriot Love’s mission with the ability to communicate with prospective new program partners and provide updates for existing partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed calendar outlining impact report and proposal deadlines, ensuring that each is completed on-time. Work with internal stakeholders to manage priorities and deliverables as required. Specifically, this will require close collaboration with the Development and Marketing teams.
  • Support the development of recommendations and documents for quarterly Disbursement Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Update Salesforce database, prepare correspondence and keep Chief Program Officer aware of any concerns that may impact the team or community partner satisfaction or risk management. 

Knowledge Translation – 25%

  • Knowledge transfer into and out of Foundation especially as it relates to the impact of True Patriot Love’s grant making.
  • Create compelling impact and grant reports that clearly and effectively articulate the impact a donor’s contribution has made in the lives of Canadian military families. Other verbal and written reporting may also be required.
  • Create and manage a digital library of reports to allow for staff to easily find and reference past reports as needed.
  • Review, enhance and ultimately manage the process for report creation from end to end, working in close collaboration with Development and Marketing Teams to ensure donor expectations are met to the highest standards.
  • Working in collaboration with the Manager, Community Engagement and Research, act as a confident internal liaison and resource of information for the Development and Marketing teams.

Qualifications and Personal Competencies

  • University degree in a related field (e.g. Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Health)
  • Strong understanding of program monitoring and evaluation principles
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong understanding of military and Veteran issues
  • Good relationship builder and ability to build and maintain effective partner relations
  • Experience of budget management and oversight
  • Project management experience, ideally in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience of managing boards or committees highly desirable
