Payroll & Accounting Assistant

Full time (35 hours per week)

Overview:

The Accounting & Finance department of the Archdiocese of Toronto is seeking a full time Payroll & Accounting Assistant to provide administrative support for the Chancery payroll system, Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable, and to assist with other Accounting & Finance support tasks as needed to comply with all government regulations and Archdiocesan policies. Work may be delegated by the Manager, Payroll & Accounting Services, Accountants, Assistant Controller or Controller.

Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Administer Vacation, Sick and Lieu time records under the direction of the Payroll Manager
  • Prepare Records of Employment (ROE’s) for parishes and Chancery employees under the direction of the Payroll Manager
  • Provide year-end support related to the verification and distribution of T4's, T4A's and Employer Health Tax (EHT) summary
  • File and manage payroll documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Accounting

  • Assist with invoice coding and inputting and follow up on missing information
  • Assist in preparing cheques and wire transfers
  • File invoices and other accounting documentation
  • Update disbursements file
  • Compile audit materials as directed
  • Assist with Parish Financial Report (PFR) verification and inputting
  • Prepare files for storage
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

General Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience with payroll and/or general accounting tasks
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma and working towards an accounting designation (CPA)
  • Working knowledge of legislation related to payroll
  • Accounting knowledge and experience with Sage Accpac is beneficial
  • Strong organization, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Excellent computer knowledge and proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization is an asset
  • Must be comfortable working in a faith-based environment
  • A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant
