Do you have a passion for developing youth and youth leaders to grow in faith, ministry and missions?  Gateway Community Christian Reformed Church has an opportunity for you to provide training, discipleship and curriculum to lead the volunteer team who strives to impact youth.  You will intentionally invest in our leaders and volunteers for youth and young adults, working to equip them to effectively lead our Youth and Young Adult Ministries.


Reports to the Executive Pastor, with written reports to Administrative Board and Pastoral Elders.


  • Equipping our Youth and Young Adult Ministry leaders and volunteers (ages 13-30)
  • Coordinate Youth mission opportunities


The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is responsible for the Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministries and will:

  • Equip and disciple Gateway’s Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry leaders & volunteers to develop and maintain a thriving, inter-generational ministry by implementing fellowship, worship, Biblical teaching, discipleship and evangelism
  • Work together with the youth ministry leaders and volunteers to ensure an energetic, thriving youth ministry at Gateway CCRC
  • Model positive and healthy relationships with Youth / Young Adults and the Youth / Young Adult Leaders
  • Ensure enough volunteers are available and equipped to serve in Youth and Young Adult ministries
  • Equip and disciple the "Youth Leadership Team" for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up
  • In partnership with the Pastoral Staff, develop and / or provide curriculum for youth ministry that faithfully reflects the Christian Reformed tradition
  • Be in partnership with the Pastoral Elders and Youth / Young Adult leaders to provide Pastoral Care to youth and young adults in the midst of crises, joys and other significant events
  • Work in partnership with the staff to ensure intergenerational worship, discipleship and full integration into the life of the church
  • Implement and lead various learning opportunities for members of the congregation and parents, allowing them to grow in knowledge and awareness of youth and young adult culture
  • Be engaged in ongoing professional development related to leading Youth / Young Adult Ministry leaders and volunteers
  • In partnership with the Director of Discipleship: Children's Ministry, develop a Faith Formation model of ministry, allowing children and youth to grow in maturity in their faith
  • Identify, develop and implement solutions to strategic needs for Young Adult Ministries
  • Ensure that Young Adults are integrated into the life of the church via Care Groups, volunteering, etc.


The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is responsible for the Youth and Young Adult Missions by:

  • Providing opportunities for youth and young adults to serve and experience God through local, national, bi-national and international opportunities
  • Working in partnership with the Outreach Ministry Team and Executive Pastor regarding support of any mission locations, its Pastors & family and our student sponsorships


The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries will also:

  • Manage all budgets for ministries responsible to the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries
  • Develop and implement long-range ministry plans to encourage & accommodate growth
  • Ensure that ALL volunteers and programs meet ALL Safe Church requirements for on- and off-site ministry programs & outings
  • Provide a monthly written report to the Executive Pastor, Administrative Board and Pastoral Elders sharing ministry updates, goals and vision for the month(s) to come
  • Serve as an ex-officio member on Gateway committees as recommended by the Executive Pastor
  • Attend monthly Pastoral Elders meetings
  • Meet occasionally with other CRC Youth Pastors in the Fraser Valley
  • Attend weekly / monthly Gateway staff meetings


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Spiritual maturity and evidence of ongoing personal spiritual formation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Youth and Young Adult Ministry and / or Family Ministries
  • Previous youth and young adult Ministry and / or family ministry experience
  • Ability to recruit, build, equip and sustain a fully functioning volunteer team
  • Ability to work effectively with a leadership team
  • Passion and ability to work with a Christian worldview mindset, with an understanding of missions
  • Understanding of current and effective teaching practices for youth & young adult development
  • Ability to relate well to, and engage with, youth and young adults
  • Ability to engage in effective conflict resolution when necessary
  • Ability to communicate / teach effectively with parents
  • Relational and outgoing, with a passion for connecting with people
  • Must be a member of the CRC Denomination and hold to the CRC doctrines
  • Be or become a member of Gateway Community Christian Reformed Church
