The successful candidate will be responsible for serving adult and youth clients with addictions and concurrent disorders residing in Etobicoke and Brampton emergency shelters.

  • Outreach and Engagement with clients in the shelters
  • Pre- and post-treatment support
  • Assessment and Referral
  • Individual Counselling
  • Development of case plans based on client-centred recovery goals
  • Networking with community agencies
  • Crisis/Conflict Intervention
  • Client documentation
  • Community Follow-up
  • Team Consultation and Decision-Making


  • Undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions), including qualification to enter a Provincially Regulated College
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the addiction/mental health sector
  • CACCF/ICADC Certification an asset
  • Experience and skill working with homeless individuals from an anti-oppressive, empowerment perspective
  • Understanding of the continuum of addiction and concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling interventions / treatment models
  • Understanding of trauma in relation to substance abuse
  • Knowledge of culturally competent practices
  • Maintain client records / files according to agency standards
  • The ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • The ability to work collaboratively with community partners
  • Knowledge and experience with data management systems
  • Strong work ethic, initiative and commitment to delivering positive outcomes
  • A successful police check as per Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
