1 Full-time, temporary (4 mos.) position

The Recreation Services Coordinators will plan, facilitate and evaluate activities within the Recreation Services Program (a community-based therapeutic leisure service for adults with mental health issues in Delta). Responsibilities include the overall coordination and administration of the Recreation Program.

  • Designs, promotes, facilitates and evaluates structured and unstructured therapeutic leisure activities for adult clients with mental health issues;
  • Orientates and supervises clients participating in program activities to ensure individual and group engagement, enjoyment, and safety. Documents and reports serious incidents in-line with agency procedures;
  • Encourages and motivates clients’ to engage in leisure activities, providing counselling and support when necessary;
  • Drafts the program’s operational procedures, policies and evaluation framework for approval by the Team Supervisor, Community Rehabilitation Services. Implements these procedures and policies;
  • Maintains contact with other community and referring services in order to ensure individual client needs are met. Refers participants to other agencies and services when appropriate.
  • Educates and encourages community facilities to be accessible to people with mental illness through facilitating activities in community venues;
  • Ensures the upkeep and maintenance of program facilities, equipment and vehicles ensuring that all safety and other inspections, repairs and replacements are carried out in a timely and complete manner;
  • Ensures the timely and efficient administration and recording of petty cash, time sheets, mileage and expense forms, schedules, incoming cash, invoices, and purchase orders for all program components;
  • Ensures the up to date maintenance of program client information, activity data, progress reports and information and other materials;


  • Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or a related discipline, or a combination of relevant education and / or experience;
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with adults who have mental illness in a rehabilitation setting;
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of community recreation / leisure and mental health resources;
  • Demonstrated budget setting and monitoring abilities;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Demonstrated skill in word processing and spreadsheet computer applications;
  • Fluency in a second language desirable;
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification;
