Established in 1974, the Church St. School Child Care Centre is a non-profit Centre located in Church Street Public School at the south-east corner of Church and Alexander Streets.  We offer high-quality early learning and care to 151 children from 18 months to 12 years of age.  We are looking for committed, energetic and enthusiastic Assistant Director to join our professional team.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Executive Director with the overall day-to-day operation of the childcare centre ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.  The Assistant Director is the appointed designate when the Executive Director is absent.  The Assistant Director is expected to work in accordance with the CSSDC Philosophy, Child Care & Early Years Act, 2014, The City of Toronto Operating Criteria, Public Health Regulations and all CSSDC Policies and Procedures.  

The Assistant Director is also responsible for program planning, mentoring students in addition to the completing the various administrative responsibilities required.  The Assistant Director will build positive and respectful relationships with children, families and coworkers while demonstrating leadership within the centre. 

Salary: Competitive Salary based on experience

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working with children 18 months to 12 years of aged in a licensed childcare setting
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and meets the standards for qualification as required by the Ontario Ministry of Education
  • Member in good standing of the College of Early Child Educators
  • Knowledge of childcare programming within an Emergent Curriculum model and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR C Certification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to work with families and staff in a positive manner
  • Initiative and flexibility, with the ability to adapt quickly to situations in a dynamic work environment
  • Above average ability to work independently, multi-task, time management, and organizational skills
  • Anticipates and is responsive and responsible to address issues and concerns at work
  • The incumbent will have an in depth understanding of governance practices ensuring compliance with organizational policies
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Child Care Early Years Act, 2014
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Employment Standards Act
    • City of Toronto Early Learning and Care Assessment for Quality Improvement
    • Early Learning for Every Child Today and How Does Learning Happen?
  • Experience working with a non-profit organization and reporting to a Board of Directors
  • Conflict management skills
  • Quickbooks (or similar financial software) is an asset
  • Ceridian (payroll services) is an asset
