JEAN TWEED CENTRE, a community based treatment centre for women with substance use, mental health and gambling problems and their families, invites applicants for the following position:


The Jean Tweed Centre is seeking a team leader for the Elm Supportive Housing Program. This program is delivered in partnership with the YWCA Toronto, in the Bay/Dundas area. This role will provide overall leadership, supervision, and coordination of tasks and responsibilities for the program. The Team Leader will also provide some direct service. This role is a full time position. Please note that on-call after-hours support will be part of the role.

Reporting directly to the Director of Supportive Housing, the person in this role will:

  • Provide supervision and support to a team of counsellors/case managers, two of whom provide Indigenous-specific support
  • Support a team approach to case planning, consistent with evidence-based practices in the fields of mental health and substance use
  • Support the team to manage crisis situations, conflict resolution, and risk assessments
  • Provide coordination of the daily operations of the program
  • Chairing regularly scheduled team meetings
  • Liaise and collaborate across teams both within the JTC, and the YWCA Elm team to enhance continuity and quality of care
  • Provide on-call support on a rotational basis


  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in mental health and/or substance use sector, with specific knowledge of women-centred services
  • Excellent knowledge/expertise of complexity of needs in client population, including but not limited to, trauma-informed practice, harm reduction approaches, concurrent disorders, homelessness, and other social determinants of health
  • Experience supporting a diverse population of women, including but not limited to, women with various ethno-racial backgrounds, members of LGBTQ community, Indigenous ancestry.
  • Excellent team leadership skills
  • At least two years’ experience in a supportive housing environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative and inter-agency team environment
