ROLE:  EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Women’s Centre of York Region (WCYR) - MATERNITY LEAVE 1-YEAR CONTRACT

WCYR is a non-profit organization that works with women in two ways:  firstly, women who need support and counselling on a range of issues such as safety from domestic violence. Secondly, women seeking skills and knowledge to enhance participation in the economy – women who are unemployed or underemployed, have low levels of financial literacy or who want to start a business to move off social assistance or low- paying employment. 

Our goal is for women to increase their capacity to participate in their community and the economy. Through our programs, women gain the skills and knowledge to build and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, make decisions about their finances, gain access to income and employment, go back to school and take on leadership roles.

We do this through programs including individual and transitional support counselling, life skills, financial literacy, wellness, and career exploration.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

This is a one-year maternity leave contract position starting April 1, 2020.

Reporting to the WCYR Board of Directors, we are looking for an innovative Executive Director to provide leadership to our organization. As we enter a new phase of our growth, we need someone to help build our brand, focus on financial sustainability, and further grow WCYR as a hub of support for women in York Region.

KEY DELIVERABLES INCLUDE:

Overseeing and ensuring implementation of the strategic planning, focusing on key priorities of WCYR in conjunction with the Board of Directors to achieve the mission, vision and goals.

Working with the Fundraising & Community Engagement Manager implementing fundraising strategies to reach existing and new audiences in order to enhance the capacity of WCYR.

Identifying grant opportunities and pursuing other funding opportunities for WCYR’s core operations.

Financial management including overseeing the preparation, presentation and monitoring of WCYR’s operational budget, and maintenance of proper financial records and appropriate financial statements and reports for the Board, funders and others as required.

As the primary representative and spokesperson for the Centre, building strong relationships with all partners and sponsors within the community and building awareness within York Region.

Overseeing and supporting the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the WCYR’s programs while ensuring that the programs and services are aligned with the organizations mission, vision and goals. 

Ensuring that WCYR is compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.

Providing motivational leadership to all staff and volunteers.

The ideal Executive Director candidate has:

  • strong business development skills
  • excellent fundraising orientation and background
  • strong relationship skills and a demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with a range of stakeholders excellent knowledge of Social Service trends, gaps and issues in York Region
  • extensive knowledge of the funding partners, opportunities and models of funding in York Region
  • sound knowledge of finance and budget managements skills
  • strong organizational skills with an ability to lead and influence change
  • an understanding of the issues of violence against women, women’s economic development, poverty, and food security
  • experience with Board Governance and working with a volunteer community Board of Directors
  • at least five years in a senior management capacity with experience in both private and not-for-profit sectors
  • the ability to travel within York Region and is available for extended hours for monthly Board meetings as well as special events
  • excellent written and oral communications skills – is a confident public speaker
  • Acts with passion, idealism, integrity and a positive attitude, and is mission-driven and self-directed.
  • Understands and celebrates cultural diversity and utilizes skills to develop and maintain community relationships.

EDUCATION

University Degree or equivalent education or experience in the not-for-profit sector

CFRE attained or in progress, would be an asset.
