Position Title: Community Outreach Coordinator
Location: Toronto (Head Office) and Greater Toronto Area, ON
Reports to: Program & Operations Manager (POM)

Future Possibilities for Kids (FPK) provides programs to empower children and youth from diverse Canadian communities to practice Possibility Thinking and become leaders by creating and delivering community projects.

General Function:
The Community Outreach Coordinator will support the design, development and implementation of activities in order to achieve program objectives and results. With an emphasis on quality programming and sustainability, this position will focus on cultivating relationships and engagement with key community stakeholders (including child and youth participants, families, and school contacts), and the recruitment of children to participate in the Ready, Set, Goal! and Camp Contribution Programs. The Community Outreach Coordinator will also support the monitoring and evaluation of programs, support partnership development, actively engage within our communities, and support the delivery of programs (training and facilitation) and communications.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate Outreach to Community Stakeholders

Working alongside office staff, partner schools, local community centers, and partner organizations, the Community Outreach Coordinator will:

  • Lead recruitment of school and community partners to collaboratively support recruitment of program participants
  • Lead recruitment of children to participate in Ready, Set, Goal! and Camp Contribution programs, manage registration, and ongoing communications
  • Design and facilitate introductory sessions to the Ready, Set, Goal! Program and coordinate logistics for delivery of sessions to maximize engagement and recruitment of participants
  • Establish relationships and liaise with school contacts in Toronto and York Region (ie. Site Leaders, Principals, Superintendents)
  • Maintain contact with program participants (Kids) and their parents/guardians to ensure their retention and success in the program
  • Coordinate participant transportation to and from Activity Days (including volunteer and staff deployment and supervision)
  • Support program evaluation by implementing various measurement tools to monitor and evaluate program success from Kid/Site Leader and Principal points of view

Program Development and Delivery

To ensure the successful implementation of FPK programs (Ready, Set, Goal! and Camp Contribution), the Community Outreach Coordinator will work closely with team members to:

Recruit Participants and Support Program Delivery

  • Establish and maintain accurate records for all program participants
  • Lead communication with staff, Kids, parents, Site Leaders, Principals, and community partners pertaining to program development and delivery as required
  • Support design, development, and delivery of orientation and training for KidCoach volunteers
  • Assist Program Coordinator in the curriculum design, annual updates, and publication of documents with a focus on quality, growth-mindset, and Kid-led initiatives
  • Assist Program Coordinator in the development and delivery of the Ready, Set, Goal! curriculum during Activity Days (ie. facilitation of activities where required)
  • Proactively identify risks and issues and report them to the POM/Management
  • Track and monitor program progress, coordinate quality assurance activities and prepare reports as required by the POM/Management
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of the organization’s Strategic Plan, program budgets, and priorities

Support Volunteers

  • Present to KidCoach (volunteers) about the Kid Selection criteria and selection process
  • Provide ongoing support to Site Leaders as required
  • Train and prepare bus volunteers for their supervision duties

Support Community Partnerships

With the guidance of the Executive Director, steward and build FPK's portfolio of partners and networks:

  • Develop new partnership opportunities and networks that align with the Strategic Plan
  • Steward relationships with existing partners to ensure successful program delivery and organizational growth
  • Provide community partners with materials, content and direction to facilitate participant and volunteer recruitment
    Support Organizational Initiatives
  • Provide input and support to other team members in areas of Kid recruitment, curriculum development, school/community partnerships, monitoring and evaluation, and partnership development
  • Generate awareness about FPK by assisting in the development of partnerships to contribute to programming
  • Provide opportunities to capture content to use for marketing & communications
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure FPK voice and brand message is consistent, visible, and communicated regularly
  • Support a culture of philanthropy within the organization by promoting opportunities for engagement through donations, campaigns and volunteerism

Skills Required:

  • Solid understanding and appreciation of values-based, volunteer driven, not-for-profit organizations
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, presentation, networking and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Passion for, and interest in, working with children and youth
  • Understanding of the needs and issues of our target populations and the communities FPK serves
  • Familiarity with comparable organizations and networks in the GTA
  • Strong and proven training and facilitation skills
  • Skills related to working with community based programs
  • Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook)
  • Advanced ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs and activities within deadline/resource parameters
  • Resourceful, creative; a Possibility Thinker
  • Enthusiastic, fun-generating
  • Concrete problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of diversity and social inclusion
  • Strong organizational abilities and ability to adapt to change

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Completed post-secondary education or comparable experience desired
  • Experience working in a programs based environment with diverse groups of children and youth with ranging abilities
  • Experience leading and facilitating training and activities with volunteers and children
  • Experience in working with diverse groups of people
  • Experience with program planning, implementation, and monitoring
  • Cleared criminal reference check (Vulnerable Sector Screening) required
  • Valid driver’s license is required, regular access to a vehicle (ie. own vehicle, car-share program, etc.) for work related travel is an asset
