ErinoakKids is seeking an individual to provide Research Assistant support for CP-NET – a provincial cohort study to collect information to better understand cerebral palsy and its impact. The Research Assistant will be responsible for management of the research study at the site in collaboration with the Research Coordinator, Research Project Manager, Program Manager, and the Principal Investigator and may include a variety of activities including participant recruitment, data collection and entry, managing study communications and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate research activities including screening participants, recruitment and informed consent, preparing forms and materials, collecting questionnaires and other data, conducting interviews, scheduling research appointments
  • Collect/prepare biological specimens (i.e. saliva samples) and prepare for shipment
  • Request medical charts and clinically acquired neuroimaging from other hospitals
  • Data entry and tracking including coding, adherence to data quality checks, and data cleaning
  • Administer standardized questionnaires either in person or online
  • Adhere to research study protocols and procedures, including those outlined by the Research Ethics Board
  • Organize study binders/checklists and materials
  • Assist with documentation and research reports, including quarterly, bi-annual and annual financial and milestone reporting
  • Assist with research and related administrative tasks such as reporting, purchasing supplies, processing invoices and expenses as directed/required/assigned, client recruitment mail-outs, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining administrative, regulatory and/or ethics documentation
  • Participate in monthly and bi-monthly teleconferences, meetings, annual CP-NET workshops and/or conferences, and monitoring visits with lead research site
  • Assist with knowledge translation and dissemination activities
  • Participate in and complete on-the-job training as appropriate as required by ErinoakKids and/or the CP-NET team
  • Communicate in a timely and effective manner with both colleagues and families
  • Travel within the GTA may be required, including to other ErinoakKids sites, for training and/or client meetings


  • Previous experience as a Research Assistant on a research project;
  • Bachelor degree (BA/BSc) in health sciences or related field
  • Experience with children and youth with disabilities/paediatric health care/research is an asset
  • Experience in child health and development field work is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to liaise between multiple team members;
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem solving skills;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle is required, must be able to travel to multiple ErinoakKids’ sites;
  • Flexibility with working hours;
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, time management and priority setting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel)
  • Working knowledge of database platforms (e.g. REDCAP and Brain-CODE)
  • Ability to travel to various sites and work flexible hours, if needed

*May require flexible hours including extending into the early evening and occasional weekends
