The Toronto Program Coordinator will work with the Program Director to ensure the effective and efficient running of Leacock programs in the GTA. This currently includes Literacy and Leadership Programs offered after school, weekends and in the summer in three designated communities.

The role requires the ability to work directly with all stakeholders (school administration, classroom teachers, students, program leaders and teachers, volunteers, and parent communities) to promote and coordinate Leacock programs. 

This is a part time position with a need for scheduling flexibility.

Primary Areas of Responsibility, under the direction of the Program Director:

Coordination

  • Coordinate the recruiting of volunteers, student registration and implementation of the Reading Buddies and JUMP Math programs at Rose Avenue Public School in collaboration with the Branksome Hall staff
  • Take photos and gather student stories to assist with overall fundraising efforts including the Annual Report, Quarterly newsletters and Board Meetings
  • Promote Leacock Literacy and Leadership Programs in designated communities, recruiting students and liaising with school administrators
  • Co-lead the hiring and support of ongoing contract positions

Instruction, Assessment, and Impact

  • Collaborate with Program Director on the development of curriculum aligned to the schools’ needs for all leadership and literacy program
  • Conduct on-site visits to provide support, conduct observations, and provide timely feedback to staff for all literacy and leadership programs
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to assess the learning and impact of the Leacock Foundation programs
  • Coordinate the annual reporting/assessment/feedback associated with each of the Leacock programs as required
    • Work with the Program Director, review and revise programs along with input from the administration at our partner schools
    • Prepare reports to the Leacock Board as required on the data, successes and proposed revisions for the following year

Support

  • Support the stewardship of Leacock Foundation major donors and sponsors
  • Support the stewardship of Leacock Partner schools

Volunteers

  • Management of volunteers and Canada Summer Jobs for all of the Leacock Foundation programs
  • Coordinate and implement opportunities for volunteering among the Board members, YPL, and corporations
  • Lead the tracking of the volunteers in terms of experiences and impact stories

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate with Leacock staff, students, parents, and school community staff
  • Ability to provide leadership and to supervise the planning, development and establishment of improved programs
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation aligned to the Ontario Curriculum for Grades K to 6
  • Knowledge of varied instructional strategies, how to support the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and software programs, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, draw conclusions, and create an action plan

Qualifications

  • Preferred - a University Degree in Education and certified as a teacher
  • Consideration given to candidates with ECE Certificate or Diploma along with demonstrated experience in the classroom
