The Children’s Storefront is a not-for-profit, Family Resource centre. For over 40 years, we have played a vital role in the lives of our community.

EarlyON Child and Family Centres support all children, parents and caregivers in learning, growing and connecting together. We welcome Ontario’s renewed vision for Early Learning where all children and families have access to a wide range of inclusive quality services and supports they can access.

The Children’s Storefront EarlyON Family Resource Program is a part of the support system that families need to do the most important work of parenting. We recognize that parents are the experts of their children and know them best. Inviting and encouraging parents to participate, share, network and get involved in our EarlyON program is an important element of the family-centred environment we aim to create.

We are located on Bloor Street near Ossington Station

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Parent Child Worker will work with a staff, students and volunteers to plan and implement culturally inclusive supportive programs that promote growth in all areas of development for children 0-6 years of age.  Program is designed to align with the EarlyON Child and Family Centres mandate, guided by family support principles.

What is your role?

You will;

  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment and high quality programs and services where children and families have a strong sense of value and belonging
  • Develop and implement an emergent curriculum within the program, applying core concepts of Reggio inspired philosophy in a family-centred learning environment
  • Build upon the foundational knowledge into deeper reflection and investigation of children’s thinking, development and the role of the educator using the Provincial documents “How Does Learning Happen?”, “ELECT”, and “Think, Feel, Act”
  • Model and include parents in the process of understanding how learning is happening through play during the program
  • Foster opportunities for parents and children to connect with each other and create meaningful peer relationships within the programs
  • Create meaningful connections for parents with resources, services and programming that will foster a positive impact for families
  • Engage parents and caregivers in intentional conversations and experiences, sharing information on child development, inquiry-based learning and other important factors that support their journey in their role as their child’s first teacher
  • Maintain an ongoing inclusive, safe environment

The successful candidate should possess the following qualities:


  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) degree/diploma and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (Registered Early Childhood Educator or RECE)
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with diverse and marginalized populations
  • Infant CPR


  • Experience working with Parent/Caregivers and Children in the same setting is essential.
  • Planning, developing and implementing inclusive quality play-based and early years programming for children birth to 6 years of age
  • Accessing community resources and making referrals
  • Working in a diverse environment

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and experience with Emergent Curriculum, Elect and How Does Learning Happen
  • Knowledge of available community resources

Required Skills:

  • Strong program planning and implementation skills
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to speak a second language is an asset
  • Experience working with children 0-6 yrs. and their families
  • Infant CPR

Hours and Wages: 9 -15 hours/week, $17-19 hour. This is a one-year, part-time position (with the possibility of renewal). The contract will start September 9th, 2019. Working days are Monday 9-6 and Friday 9-3. We are open to hiring 2 people – one for Monday and one for Friday.
