Pay Rate: $21.00 an hour/ 20hrs a week

Reports to: Thirteen: A Social Enterprise Program Manager

Job Summary

Thirteen A Social Enterprise (13:ASE) is an entrepreneurial program for youth run out of the Parkdale Food Centre. 13:ASE engages youth facing barriers, primarily low-income and new Canadians, in the operation of a social enterprise producing and selling spice blends linked to the cultural backgrounds of participants. By engaging participants in all aspects of the business development and growth, in a collaborative, safe space, 13:ASE gives youth the opportunity to make business decisions, lead events and projects. Ultimately, this program is aimed at helping them gain strong emotional and social skills as well as confidence in themselves and their future.

The Business Coordinator will play an integral role in the continued growth of Thirteen’s social enterprise and in the program’s overall success. The Business Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Thirteen’s business activities, as well as developing our capacity for growth. In addition, the Coordinator will be responsible for nurturing strategic partnerships, managing business to business relationships, sourcing high quality suppliers and work closely with clients to grow the business.

The position requires respect for, and expertise working with people who face multiple barriers to employment. The youth come from racially, culturally, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate is highly motivated to blend business skills with a passion for affecting positive community change and development.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead on the development and implementation of business plans and forecasts
  • Prepare and monitor budgets.
  • Prepare reports, funding applications and presentation materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop a pricing model that works for our unique social enterprise.
  • Develop new business relationships and communicate with ongoing clients
  • Maintain Thirteen’s Wix website
  • Monitor incoming orders and make deliveries
  • Book events
  • Work with Program manager to ensure that business activities align with the mission and values of the program

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to sort and analyze data
  • Familiarity with shopify or other website development platforms
  • Experience in leading business development activities
  • Experience developing business strategies
  • Experience with the non-profit sector and employment training programs/services
  • Experience in marketing, communications, social and digital media
  • Understanding and experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Strong organization, time management, communication (oral and written) problem solving, and leadership skills
  • Team player
  • Literacy in Google Suite
  • A clear Criminal Record Check
  • Assets:
    • Bilingual
    • Degree or Diploma in Business
    • Experience with youth programs
    • Direct experience developing and operating a social enterprise
