Peel Children's Centre is looking for a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic mental health professional to work in their Crisis Response Services program and respond to crisis situations and provide both telephone and on-site crisis response and services to children, youth and their families in the Region of Peel.   Our Crisis Response Services offers immediate aid for children/youth and their families who are dealing with imminent mental health crises and provides a two-tiered response service via telephone and on-site visits to the clients' home, school, or any other location in the community.

Peel Children's Centre is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or may experience serious emotional difficulties.

Annual salary range - $59,903 to $69,492 (5 Step Range)

This is a full time position with a generous total rewards package of 4 weeks’ vacation in the first year, personal leave, group life/LTD/health/dental benefits that are fully employer paid and a defined contribution pension plan.  

Job Summary

The Crisis Response Worker may provide service in the home, in the school or in the community and may be required to provide time-limited, transitional case management supports and collaboration with other service providers following the crisis response.  For clients, you will assess circumstances of the crisis and determine whether the response will utilize effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills and complete all necessary risk and behavioural assessments. 

You will be required to work flexible, rotating shifts according to a predetermined schedule and provide on call coverage, as the Crisis Response Service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  As a member of the Crisis Response Service team, you will respond to crisis calls in a timely manner, implement verbal de-escalation techniques, negotiate safety plans, as required, and work closely with other members of the Crisis Response Service.  You will provide follow up calls and/or visits to further support stabilization of the crisis situation and provide linkages to ongoing community supports or counselling, as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • B.S.W., BScN or related B.A with a minimum of two years clinical experience OR CYW diploma with three years clinical experience in children’s mental health crisis response services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of crisis theory, relevant legislation pertaining to children’s mental health, child and family development, mental health issues and community resources.
  • Proven risk assessment , effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills.
  • Have proven tolerance for high stress which necessitates a calm and competent manner, quick and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Display a proven ability to anticipate unsafe situations and formulate safety plans to address these needs.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in addition to excellent computer literacy skills.
  • A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening is required
  • Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license ( Full G Class), use of a vehicle with a comfort in driving throughout the Peel region (surrounding areas) and be able to work flexible hours according to program needs
  • A second spoken language is an asset.
