Whytecliff Agile Learning Centers (walc.ca) in Langley BC is seeking a full time, experienced Youth Development and Support Worker to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a fun, dynamic, and innovative community and to make a real difference in kids’ lives!
A little about us:
Whytecliff is a BC Ministry of Education accredited independent school for grades 8-12. Our Langley campus is small, with a tight-knit team of staff serving up to 54 students (with an overall student to staff ratio of 5 or 6 to 1). We serve a variety of truly great kids who arrive with an array of learning needs and challenges, and who present a range of developmental, academic and behavioral capabilities. In a comfortable, caring and collaborative setting, Whytecliff incorporates and models the new BC Curriculum's intellectual, personal, and social-emotional proficiencies, with a special emphasis on mental health and wellness.
Whytecliff is unique. It stands apart as being one of the few programs in North America that seamlessly integrates education and youth work (to provide the best in learning AND therapeutic experiences). We use a strengths-based, positive therapeutic community approach that is transformative for many of the youth attending our programs. We have an active gym program, music program, hockey program, and evolve new exciting opportunities every year. Youth Development Workers apply a developmental framework to promote the personal, recreational, educational, and social development of young people aged 13 to 19 in our programs.
A little about who we’re looking for:
The ideal candidates will have an undergraduate degree in the relevant discipline and prior experience in working with youth. We look for staff that are good active listeners, are naturally self reflective (with a ‘growth mindset’), are sincere, and enjoy working with children. ...Someone who has an engaging presence and deep values, has a positive and uplifting energy with children, has the flexibility, focus and creativity to think both inside the box AND outside it, has the courage to ‘colour outside the lines’, and has a desire to make a meaningful difference. The position is transdisciplinary and teachers often work with youth in other capacities outside traditional classroom duties and activities.
A driver’s license is required. Youth workers drive vans and assist with dropoffs and pickups
Pay is commensurate with experience
The position will start January 2020 or earlier
