Summary of Position:

The purpose of the support position in the Drop-in is to provide at risk and homeless youth with a safe, welcoming and respectful environment. The Drop-in is intended to be a “working” drop-in where youth are offered opportunities, basic needs and referrals.

Principle Duties:

  • Provide on-site supervision and leadership to participants in the youth Drop-in.
  • Assist youth with issues and provide support referrals and system navigation as necessary.
  • Follow-up with each youth on their action plans to ensure the goals are being achieved.
  • Use the “strengths-based” approach when working with participants.
  • Facilitate life and social skills development (such as pro social behavior, communication and life skills), individual action plans, employability enhancement and self-esteem development for youth.
  • Assist in the intake and orientation of all new youth to Operation Come Home.
  • Act as a resource and advocate for youth.
  • Assist youth with general housing searches and housing issues.
  • Assist youth with employment searches, resumes, interview preparation and any other roles relating to employment.
  • Take a lead role in the planning, development, promotion and implementation of activities and events.
  • Assist in the development of the Drop-in through planning workshops, communicating with outreach volunteers to plan presentations, and inviting other organizations and services in to the drop-in for presentations, discussions and workshops.
  • Assist with the orientation of new volunteers and students.
  • Accept, sort and store all donated items including food bank, clothing donations, item donations, etc.
  • Ensure that breakfast is prepared each morning either by assigning students and volunteers, preparing it by on your own or by requesting staff support.
  • Maintain statistics for the Drop-in including unique clients, number of visits, housing status, food bank accesses, social support referrals, social support given, bust tickets, etc.
  • Act as the first point of contact for incoming visitors and participating youth in a reception capacity. 
  • Work in partnership with community members, local agencies, and other members of the Bank St BIA.
  • Represent Operation Come Home in a respectable and professional manner.
  • Hours of work: Monday- Friday 8am-12pm

General Office/Additional Tasks:

  • Contribute to the OCH team by assisting with fundraising events.
  • As part of the OCH team, promote support for Operation Come Home in the community, including with other service providers, media, etc.
  • Respond to incoming calls from outside agencies, academic institutions and referral sources.

This position is listed as "Contract part-time" however, hours may range from 20-40 per week and may be eligible for full-time opportunities in the future.
