About Us:

Atira Women’s Resource Society is dedicated to supporting women and children affected by violence by offering safe and supportive housing and by delivering education and advocacy aimed at ending all forms of gendered violence.  The Society was incorporated in 1983 and has grown from a single transitional housing program in South Surrey to having more than 30 housing programs, 2 community daycares and multiple support programs located across the Lower Mainland.  We continue to expand our programs and services, and have a need for a Director-level position to oversee the health of our buildings while our current Director is on maternity leave.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Operations, the Director, Facilities Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operational management and maintenance of Atira’s buildings and offices in a manner consistent with industry best practices, ensuring a safe and reliable physical environment for the delivery of Atira’s programs and services.

About You:

You hold a degree, diploma or certificate level training in engineering, facilities management or a related technical field, supplemented with five to seven years' recent, related progressive supervisory and management experience in a similar-sized organization and environment.  You will promote and articulate the mission, vision and values of Atira Women’s Resource Society and create positive working relationships with all stakeholders necessary to achieve Atira’s objectives.  As a well-organized and strong leader, your communication skills are impeccable and you are a skilled team player.  You also have demonstrated knowledge of capital renovation processes, approval systems and applicable by-laws, codes & regulations.

You also have:

  • demonstrated working knowledge of building systems, operations and maintenance practices in a complex, multi-site housing environment
  • demonstrated working knowledge of appropriate legislation, relevant laws & by-laws and provincial / national standards
  • proven initiative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
  • demonstrated ability to take action in a crisis management environment
  • demonstrated ability to lead and coach team members
  • proven ability to develop and maintain rapport with staff and other stakeholders
  • ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • ability to operate related equipment, including related software applications
  • physical ability to perform the duties of the position

You question actions inconsistent with our values and you treat everyone with fairness and respect independent of their status or disagreement with you.  You hire great people and expect great things from them.  You inspire others with your eagerness for excellence.  You create an environment where people can flourish and grow, and you seek what is best for Atira, rather than the best for yourself or your team.  You challenge the status quo to improve quality & sustainability, and you take smart risks and make tough decisions without agonizing.

Application Process:

The Competition Number must be quoted for your application to be considered.  Please submit expressions of interest, including an updated Cover Letter and Resume describing how you meet or exceed the above-noted qualifications, received before the closing date noted above.  Resumes without a Cover Letter will not be considered.  Candidates who lack the basic experience and qualifications set out in the posting will not be considered.
