We are continuing our mission to create a vibrant and fulfilling life for our 25 year old son who has autism. We currently have a team of smart, energetic and dedicated support staff helping guide our son on his day-to-day journey and are looking for a House Manager/Staff Liaison to help lead our team. The House Manager/Staff Liaison is the focal part of a multi-disciplinary team working in the home and community of a young man with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with a focus on community based and family led approaches to support. The role requires the ability to motivate, train, coach and supervise a team of direct support professionals.

The House Manager/Staff Liaison will supervise the team as they provide direct support to the individual to carry out his day-to-day tasks in home and community. This may include assistance with personal care, meal preparation, household duties, community activities, support to carry out social/recreational roles, and working towards other goals in his life e.g. making meaningful contributions in a work role.

The House Manager/Staff Liaison will also maintain an effective flow of communication among the team, family and other professionals, and perform administrative duties that will ensure a seamless and layered approach to support.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Lead a team of direct support professionals that focuses on increasing adaptive living skills and opportunities for the young man supported
  • Work in collaboration with the clinical team to implement the individual’s behavioural support plan (BSP), to optimize the individual’s participation in his daily roles
  • Work in collaboration with the Facilitator to coordinate daily programming
  • Facilitate excellent communication within the staff team, the Facilitator, Clinical Manager, BCBA and parents
  • Home/house operational duties as required. This includes monitoring staff attendance, coordinating changes in shifts and schedules, ensuring stable staff coverage, and supporting the young man as needed
  • Communicating appointments and other priorities to staff
  • Monitoring routine home maintenance
  • Promote community inclusion, independence and self-determinism
  • Promote and support learning and skill acquisition
  • Support to identify, work towards and achieve goals and personal outcomes
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to work collaboratively with the young man, team members and family
  • Participate fully in staff training opportunities
  • Lead monthly team meetings

Requirements and Core Competencies:

  • An undergraduate degree or diploma in health sciences, community work, social work or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum 3 to 5 years professional work experience
  • Experience with ASD and/or the developmental services sector
  • Experience managing individuals and teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Interpersonal and team building skills
  • Excellent problem solving, leadership and supervisory skills, and the ability to be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Time management and critical thinking skills are essential
  • Basic computer and IT skills
  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2
  • First Aid and CPR Certified
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening

Performance Crisis Management (PCM) training and certification will be provided.
