McDermott House Canada (MHC) is seeking a dynamic Executive Director interested in working a flexible schedule, 2-3 days per week, from a home-based office.  To succeed in this role, our new leader will need a solid understanding of the charitable sector in Canada in order to ensure that MHC and The Board are current and up-to-date on all fiduciary and regulatory requirements. 


MHC is a registered charity dedicated to serving those who serve. Our FIRST project is to create an innovative and warm, home-like environment for Canadian Veterans, Military, First Responders and community patients in the Palliative care Unit at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto.

Our partnership with Sunnybrook continues to be a rewarding one, as we work together to accomplish the transformation of the Palliative Care Unit in K1E Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Our mission is to promote the highest quality of life for Veterans, Military, First Responders and community patients facing the final stage of a terminal illness.

We continue to work diligently to raise the money required to accomplish our mission. Now all we need is you!

  • Schedule, attend and record four (4) Board meetings per year
  • Prepare and submit grant and foundation requests
  • Ensure that MHC and The Board meet all current fiduciary and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee all social media and ensure that MHC website content is up-to-date
  • Organize MHC events including Gala and Music in the Key of Giving
  • Work with Bookkeeper to ensure monthly statements and reports are both accurate and current; process donations, issue tax receipts and update Salesforce
  • Work with Auditor on annual audit
  • Collaborate with the team at Sunnybrook to create a positive rapport and ensure the steady progression of MHC's project there
  • Dive into fundraising initiatives; creating new ideas and seeking new sources to generate funds


  • 5+ year of fundraising experience, at least 2 years of experience in a senior management role.
