FIFE HOUSE is an AIDS service organization which has been providing supportive housing and support services to People living with HIV/AIDS. The organization is seeking dedicated individuals to fill a part-time, contract position as a Personal Supports Worker.

Fife House is developing an exciting new team to address unmet personal care and support needs of men staying in the shelter system, who have complex health/care needs, mental health, cognitive issues, and substance use issues. The team will support client engagement and participation in identifying goals around life skills development, and the development care/service planning with shelter, housing, and community partners to prepare clients for transitions to more independent living in the community.

The team will work with clients on ongoing assessments of need, care coordination/service planning, skill building and goal setting; within a multi-disciplinary team of shelter supports, intensive case management, and clinical supports.

The position will also provide direct service delivery in such areas as activities of daily living, personal care, crisis management, and health instruction/stabilization.


  • Provision of personal care: bathing, grooming, and dressing;
  • Support client mobility and transfers;
  • Light housekeeping duties such as room cleaning, and laundry support;
  • Life skills teaching and support ADLS and IADLS- individual and group;
  • Reporting changes in client behaviour and condition;
  • Documenting of care and client goals/preferences;
  • Participate in client case conferences and care planning;
  • Participate in ongoing client assessment process;
  • Support team delivery of individual client service and care plans;
  • Work collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team.


  • Completion of a post-secondary education in either Personal Support Worker Certification
  • 3 years’ experience providing personal support services;
  • Experience working with homeless men, who may be older, living with serious mental illness, cognitive illnesses and substance use challenges who have been long term shelter users;
  • Proven experience working with clients in a PSR (Psychosocial Rehabilitation) approach and its’ best practices in the delivery of personal care;
  • Prior experience in ongoing assessment of need and delivery of tools;
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and community partners;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and crisis;
  • Physically able to perform demanding body mechanics (mobility, lifting, transfers, bending);
  • Demonstrated commitment to client centred care;
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize safety concerns;
  • First Aid and CPR certification;
  • Good oral and written skills; excellent computer skills
  • Ability to communicate in a different language, an asset.
