Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Communications (MC) and working as part of UGM’s Marketing and Communications Team, the Communications & Media Officer serves as a UGM spokesperson, while also developing and executing assigned communications projects across multiple channels, all with the goal of promoting and enhancing external awareness of Union Gospel Mission, serving UGM’s guests, and supporting UGM’s life-saving work throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

At times you will come into contact with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

Skill Set

The successful candidate will have a College or University degree/diploma, and/or a minimum of 2 years of experience in a newsroom, communications, or related position, along with excellent communication skills and intermediate skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook. The candidate will also be proficient in project management software, such as Asana, and collaboration tools, such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Slack. Basic website editing skills and experience using MAC OS is an asset. Working knowledge of a DSLR camera and professional video/audio equipment is an asset. Digital marketing training is also an asset.

This position may have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children. Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.

This position requires the incumbent to drive a UGM vehicle. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and submit a current driver’s abstract.
