Women's Health in Women's Hands Community Health Centre is recruiting a professional, energetic, and skilled individual for the following position:
Community Health Worker (CHW) – HIV/AIDS
Contract: Full-Time from February 2019 – June 2020
Reporting to the Programs and Research Manager, the individual will work within the mandate of Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Centre (WHIWH), which is to provide primary health care to racialized women from the Caribbean, African, Latin American and South Asian communities in Metropolitan Toronto and surrounding municipalities. You will work from an inclusive feminist, pro-choice, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multilingual participatory framework in addressing the issue of access to healthcare for WHIWH’s mandated priority populations encompassing all the determinants of health caused by gender, gender identity, race, class, violence, sexual orientation, religion, culture, language, disability, immigration status and socio-economic circumstances.
The CHW, HIV/AIDS will be responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our “African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) Women Taking Control over HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health” project. The project will utilize a peer-based approach working with a network of community ambassadors who will use their existing networks to reach ACB women and their communities to support HIV prevention and testing and access to care for women diagnosed with HIV; build skills and leadership among service providers to affect change to reduce risk factors for HIV infection among ACB women; engage with academic institution to support education of service providers of tomorrow; and organize fora to bring multiple stakeholders together to dialogue, share knowledge and propose solutions to build effective HIV responses among ACB women and their communities.
