The Toronto Military Family Resource Centre is looking for energetic, enthusiastic, and reliable ECA/RECE child care supply staff to provide high quality child care and early learning at their location in North York. As a supply teacher, you will be covering shifts for permanent teachers during absences and vacations.

This position requires staff to work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in a licensed childcare setting. This job is on an as needed basis with a schedule as well as an on-call basis for emergencies. With a large staff team there is lots of shift opportunities. We are willing to work with your availability.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Children’s Program
    • To assist in providing a high-quality program in consultation with team members and the supervisor.
    • To carry out a program geared to the needs of the child with concerns for the interests, special needs, individual style, cultural differences and pace of learning.
    • Ensure consistent and effective modes of discipline are being followed which supports the Centre’s Program Statement.
    • Guide learning experiences and be a model to the children.
    • Welcome children warmly and ensure that the environment is conducive to learning and exploration.
    • Practice and exemplify patience, honesty, warmth, love, kindness, enjoyment, understanding, humour, self-confidence and calmness towards the children, staff and parents: be aware of and responsive to a child’s family cultural and religious practices and the military lifestyle.
    • Communicate effectively with parents on a regular basis and represent the organization to all stakeholders.
  • Professional Development
    • To continually be open to learning about new research in the field of Early Childhood Education and be willing to attend professional development workshops, conferences, seminars when offered throughout the year.


Essential and Asset Qualifications include:

Supply Registered Early Childhood Educator

  • Graduate with a university or college degree/diploma in Early Childhood Education.
  • Designation as a Registered Early Childhood Educator with Ontario’s College of Early Childhood Educators.

Supply Early Childhood Assistant

  • Graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant certificate program.

All Supply Staff

  • Standard First Aid and Child CPR certification.
  • A working knowledge of the principles of the Emergent Curriculum Approach to child care.
  • Be highly dynamic, motivated, creative, flexible and work well as a team member.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status and provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Willing to adapt and be flexible within the family age group setting.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a child care centre.
  • Knowledge of the criteria required by City of Toronto for specific rooms.
  • Working knowledge of Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Specialized knowledge or willing to learn about the military lifestyle, how to care for the military child and how the stress of military life impacts the behaviour of infants, toddler and preschoolers differently.
  • Fluency in written and verbal French an asset.
  • Food Handlers Certificate an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a purpose-built child care facility.
  • Required to participate in and guide indoor and outdoor activities with young children.
  • May be required to work overtime as needed.
