Job Description:

Our Place Peel is searching for energetic, enthusiastic and highly motivated Relief Youth Workers to join our team. As a Relief Youth Worker, you will be joining a team of dedicated staff to lead and inspire youth towards positive change. Reporting to the Youth Support Supervisor, the ideal incumbent will work collaboratively in running the Emergency Youth Shelter during afternoon, evening and overnight shifts.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and inspire youth in a positive, supportive and safe environment
  • Support youth on skills development, security risks, personal crisis, counseling, etc. and recommend referrals when appropriate
  • Promote positive behavioral change by encouraging participation and advocating rules and expectations of the shelter
  • Compile information and data including documentation of shift activities, incident reports and client records
  • Form associations and relationships with a broad spectrum of community service agencies for referrals and facilitate a successful connection for youth
  • Work in collaboration with shift partner to provide housekeeping and food preparation
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and values of OPP

Qualifications:

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience working with youth and knowledge of homelessness, mental health, addictions and poverty issues
  • First Aid, CPI/ UMAB, WHMIS and Food Handling Certification recommended
  • Knowledge of resources within the Region of Peel, specifically for youth
  • Problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Type:

Part-time, Casual (Weekends/Holidays, primarily evenings and overnights, some day shifts)
