Canadian Actors' Equity Association represents professional artists including performers (actors, singers and dancers), directors, choreographers, fight directors and stage managers who are engaged in theatre, opera and dance in English Canada. 

This national Association provides support to over 6,000 members across the country.  The national office in Toronto is seeking two:


The ASSISTANT BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES assist with the administration of the Association’s collective agreements and policies, maintain records of cash and non-cash securities held in trust by the Association and provide administrative assistance to the Business Rep department.

We are looking for two people to join our team: one person will focus on administering our engagement policies (Festival Policy, Artists’ Collective Policy, and Amateur); the other will assist with the administration of our theatre agreements.  Both positions will also be responsible for the following:

  • Assists Senior Business Representatives and/or Business Representatives with pre-vetting contracts and riders to ensure their completeness and accuracy;
  • Assists Senior Business Representatives and/or Business Representatives with internal document generation including preparing contracts and required riders, preparing materials for meetings and negotiations, and running various reports;
  • Stats cast/ production team lists for potential ACTRA/ UBCP, UDA members, etc.;
  • Maintains accurate records of cash and non-cash securities held in trust by the Association as a bond against the default of contractual obligations by engagers;
  • Monitors bonds to ensure that adequate security is maintained and to ensure that bonds are either renewed or their expiry approved and funds dispersed in a timely manner;
  • Processes the Closing Production Checklist including following up with engagers, members and staff as required;
  • Provides assistance and information to engagers and staff with regards to bonds administration;
  • Processes the Bond Release Checklist including following up with engagers and staff regarding outstanding items and administering bond claims;
  • Enters information into the Association’s database including setting up and maintaining engager records and recording letters of adherence, cash and non-cash securities and the receipt of deputy and artist releases;
  • Tracks various information including averaging agreements, audition sign-in sheets, etc.;
  • Assists in the creation, editing and formatting of Equity’s negotiated Agreements and Policies;
  • Provides relief reception on an occasional basis (i.e. for unplanned absences of regularly scheduled reception and reception relief staff);
  • Performs other related duties and projects generally considered to be within the job category.


  • Post secondary education;
  • Strong computer skills, with competency in using intermediate/ advanced features of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), the internet and working with a database;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong member service attitude in a dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to handle confidential matters;
  • Collegial interpersonal skills and a team player willing to help out when required;
  • Flexibility, ability to adapt to change and shifting priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision;

The successful candidates will have a minimum of three years experience.  Preference will be given to those with a background in theatre and/or opera, the arts and/or labour. 

The starting salary for these positions is $52,961 per annum with an excellent benefits package.  The starting date will be as soon as possible.
