Springtide Resources is a registered charity that develops and implements programs aimed at responding to the growing prevention, intervention and educational needs of those working on gender based violence. Since 1978 we have engaged diverse communities in shared educational strategies designed to prevent gender based violence and the effect it has on individuals and communities, particularly those facing multiple barriers. We are growing and evolving to meet the changes in how information and training on gender based violence and human rights is generated in our community.

Job:                  Bookkeeper, Part Time

Reports to:      Executive Director

Position Summary:

The Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the day to day finances of the organization, maintaining records of financial transactions and ensuring legal requirements for not-for-profit accounting are met and the books are kept in compliance with governing accounting principles.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting or 3+ years’ experience within not-for-profit sector
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles for not-for-profit organizations
  • High level of proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel
  • Understanding of financial management in the charity, public and/or voluntary sector
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present and explain financial information clearly to non-finance staff
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and design reports and information sheets to be presented to management

  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely in a fast-paced environment
  • An ability to work with multiple levels of government and funders and in various projects i.e. government, for profit and or fund raising. 


  • Prepare and balance monthly accounts and other accounts payable activities, using Quickbooks
  • Reconciliation of all transactions against bank statements
  • Balance petty cash accounts
  • Reconcile credit card statements and process journal entries related to statements
  • Maintain up-to-date supporting documentation of all financial, accounting and bookkeeping activities
  • File, store and maintain electronic records of all related financial transactions
  • Maintain accounting systems, and enter all financial transactions into the general ledger and subledger on a bi-weekly basis
  • Manage all payroll activities, including the bi-weekly processing of payroll and issuance of all government remittances in accordance with reporting requirements
  • Prepare cheques for payment of accounts payable using Quickbooks
  • Maintain accurate records of all revenues, expenses and the corresponding supporting documentation
  • Support the Executive Director on the annual budgeting and audit process
  • Maintain historical records by fiscal year
  • Process urgent and ad hoc requests, as required
  • Provide assistance relevant to the financial position of the organization to the Executive Director, The Finance Committee and the Board of Directors as needed
  • Support the work of the organization through accurate and timely reporting
  • Provide on-site support to staff relevant to expense management
