Community Director and Animator


Holy Trinity has a long history of community engagement in Toronto. Built in 1847 with an anonymous donation, Holy Trinity was one of the first free churches in Toronto. We have offered leadership and engagement in many areas over the years including housing, war resistance, LGBTQ rights, hospice care, and others. Very aware that a new approach to community engagement and faith is called for in our pluralistic context, we are looking to the future with intention to be an active and positive force in downtown Toronto, celebrating what has got us here and letting go of what holds us back. We are looking for a partner with a fire in their belly, proven leadership experience and a desire to explore how a community like this can open the doors, energizing and supporting the broader community we are a part of.

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a community of people who express Christian faith through lives of integrity, justice, and compassion. We foster lay leadership, include the doubter and marginalized, and challenge oppression wherever it may be found.

Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Vestry Executive, the Community Director will contribute to the growth and management of Holy Trinity by providing strong operational and professional leadership for a team of Animators which oversee the program and administration of the
community. The Community Director will also provide creative, flexible, and effective leadership in one of the Animation areas.


The Community Director will be the daily face and connector that will carry forward the community priorities expressed in our mission statement and strategic plan. This position will help build Holy Trinity’s community ministry and organizational development (including fundraising). This includes overseeing the development and implementation of operational plans and budgets, supervising staff performance, and holding vision and ministry. This position plays a crucial role in advising the Vestry Executive on organizational development and contributes to the overall management of Holy Trinity.

Community Director

  • Helps to articulate the community’s vision, priorities and vision and direction of the community
  • Provides leadership and coordination to the team of animators
  • Facilitates communication among the team, and throughout the community
  • Creates an Operational Plan yearly; and Helps to develop a yearly budget
  • Builds key network of stakeholders and partners
  • Ensures processes are collective, consensus seeking, and democratic
  • Oversees Human Resources Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists in Hiring Staff and leading performance appraisals
  • Supervises the Animators, the Lead Caretaker, Summer Staff, and the Parish Administrator
  • Responds to and is accountable to parish and community
  • Develops a new community Governance Model to include neighbourhood partners.
  • Ensures the Health and Safety policies are implemented
  • Ensures staff reads and implements Human Resources Policies and Procedures
  • Acts as Privacy Officer and maintains knowledge of the Privacy Legislation.

The Community Director will also be responsible for one of the following:

  • Communication and Outreach
  • Hospitality and Use of Space
  • Social Justice

Within the Animation Area, duties will include:

  • Coordinates, trains and supports volunteers
  • Develops and implements strategy
  • Reaches those beyond the worshipping community, including community partners and the “unchurched”
  • Assists in problem solving and issues management



  • Relevant degree with a minimum of three years’ leadership or management experience in a related field
  • Proven experience developing and managing budgets


  • Is a self-starter, with proven problem solving and critical thinking abilities, managing effectively in a dynamic, changing environment;
  • Has proven success with inspiring teams and the ability to mentor, coach and facilitate positive change and innovation;
  • Is able to organize self and others to manage competing priorities and balance multiple, disparate tasks;
  • Is able to set high professional standards
  • Has strong leadership, organization, time management and interpersonal skills;
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Has proficiency in the use of the computer hardware and software, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • Has a commitment to communication and outreach, including social media
  • Has the ability to work in a church environment and with the church community

Position Details:

5-year renewable contract including benefits, after the successful completion of a 6-month probationary period

Salary Range: $80,000--$85,000 with 22% benefits
