The Position…

The Griffin Centre is currently filling a full-time contract position as Supervisor for our Day/School Support Services (DSSS) program for a period of 12-18 months.

The supervisor must be able to support an anti-oppressive perspective/frame work (AOP), when working with and supporting staff. Being able to recognize and identify situations where incidents of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible impact. The person must show a keen willingness to be self-reflective that allow for the capacity to be an advocate and seek equitable solutions.

DSSS is a therapeutic program with an individualized academic component for youth ages 12 to 18 with a dual diagnosis (mild-moderate developmental disability and mental health challenges), and/or behavioural challenges who may also have challenging behaviours whose needs exceed the capacity of the school system. Services are provided in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and offered in small sized classes located in community-based schools and in specialized settings.

The major position responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day service delivery, organization and management of a number of Day Treatment programs throughout Toronto;
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision/support to the Day/School Support Service Workers in the programs and consultation and support to the teaching staff;
  • Oversee the development, coordination and implementation of individual treatment programs for each client;
  • Provide clear focus and direction for Day Treatment Teams;
  • Liaise with programs across the agency to develop coordinated services for clients;
  • Participate as part of the Centre’s management team in the development of services and programs within the agency and with relevant community partners.

Your Qualifications…

We are interested in candidates with the following qualifications:

  • B.A. in a related field or Community College Diploma (i.e. C.Y.C., S.S.W., H.S.C.);
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct service experience supporting persons with a dual diagnosis including ASD, preferably in a Day Treatment setting;
  • Related supervisory experience;
  • Strong clinical skills and an ability to apply systems theory and thinking in providing direction to staff;
  • Demonstrated competency in cross-cultural work and ability to support front-line staff;
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including report writing;
  • Experience in the implementation of service plans, which are sensitive to and include the following: sexual orientation, ethno-racial needs, social and life skills as well as behavioural assessment and management techniques;
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office Suite and client record software;
  • Ontario driver’s license, access to a vehicle and $1,000,000 in liability insurance;
  • Fluency in French or other second language is an asset.
