POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director this role manages the Finance and Accounting department including supervising two direct reports. The Director, Finance oversees the accounting, finance, systems, and administration for three organizations including the following: Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation, and Renew Crew Foundation. This role is a temporary contract for 13 months.

A SNEAK PEEK AT THE GREAT THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the accounting, finance, systems, and administration for three organizations including the following: Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation and, Renew Crew Foundation.

To ensure consistent, accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.

To oversee the processes to objectively measure the performance and efficiencies of the organization:

  • Creating key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Setting targets
  • Reporting on indicators
  • Responding to results.

To develop efficient processes and operations within the organizations and assist in implementing process improvements as necessary.

To direct the implementation and management of systems, databases, and other IT infrastructure used to achieve the organizations’ objectives.

OTHER KEY DUTIES:

  • Accounting and Finance
    • Reviewing financial statements and other financial matters
    • Overseeing budgeting and forecasting processes
    • Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance Committee and the Board of Directors on the financial status of the organization and provide recommendations.
    • A long and short term financial planning and management
  • Administration
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory rules
    • Maintenance and review of insurance policies
    • Overseeing correspondence with suppliers
    • Overseeing leases and other occupancy related matters
  • Payroll
    • Oversee payroll functions
    • Review the payrolls prior to submission for the 3 agencies on a bi-weekly basis
    • Manage the outsourced payroll system
  • Renew Crew Foundation
    • Providing recommendation and analysis to support decision making for new opportunities and initiatives
    • Improving financial reporting processes to provide better information for operational decision making (i.e. cost per source)
    • Supporting operational processes improvements and implementation of new systems
  • Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation
    • Improving financial reporting processes to provide better information for operational decision making (i.e. Cost to Raise a Dollar)
    • Supporting technical and process-related areas of the Fundraising Database/CRM
    • Providing support and analysis for annual fund development, online giving, and other fundraising initiatives
    • Reviewing budgets for grant applications
  • Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver
    • Improving financial reporting processes to provide better information for operational decision making (i.e. Cost per Child Served)
    • Overseeing the Program Tracker and analyzing the data to provide operational insights
    • Providing analysis and statistical modeling for marketing/recruitment.
  • General
    • Keeping Cyber Security policies up to date and ensuring appropriate Cyber Security measures are taken
    • Providing support for other analytics as needed from time to time

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE:  

  • Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • University Degree
  • Several years’ experience within a similar role with experience relating to accounting, finance, and organization operations
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Experience with bookkeeping/accounting software
  • Experience supervising others
