The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a Translator.
Reporting directly to the Manager, Translation Services, at National Office, the incumbent provides translation services to the Canadian Red Cross Society. Responsibilities include: translating a variety of material from English to French and vice versa in a timely manner and in accordance to high quality standards as well as assisting in maintaining and expanding the in-house terminology.
Translates as required various sources from English to French and vice versa at an average of 1,500 words per day.
Translates, mainly from English to French, in a timely manner, a variety of material including web content, internal and external communications, presentations, training manuals, etc.
Produces high quality translations in accordance with style standards and terminology in use at the Canadian Red Cross.
Completes assigned projects in a timely manner, according to the priorities, deadlines and production schedule established by the Manager of Translation Services.
Report progress and status of work to Translation Services Manager
Contribute to overall quality and efficiency of the Translation Services team
Researches terminology related to assigned projects and supports the creation of internal glossaries and terminology databases, based on reputable sources.
Delivers product on time and in accordance with quality criteria.
Provides timely updates to the Translation Manager as required.
Act as the Translation Services on-call point-of contact on a rotational basis during weekends.
Occasional requirement to work additional hours during emergency appeals.
Performs other duties as required.
Completion of post-secondary education or diploma in Translation or in a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in translation from English to French.
Excellent verbal and written skills in French and English.
Excellent knowledge and computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software as well as translation memory software (e. g. LogiTerm).
Excellent customer service and attention to detail.
Strong time management and prioritization skills.
Must be flexible and motivated, with a proven ability to multi-task and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
