Peel Children's Centre is looking for a dynamic, motivated Information Technology professional to fill the role of System Administrator. The System Administrator is responsible for ensuring the secure operations of the organization’s computer systems, servers, and overall network connections. Duties include planning, installing, maintaining and upgrading, monitoring and overseeing the IT information systems, their operation, resources (power, disk space, memory, cooling, etc.) as well as timely and accurate updates of all security upgrades necessary for reliable operation.

The annual salary range for this position is from­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ $68,554 - $79,928

This is a full time position with a generous total rewards package of 4 weeks’ in the first year, personal leave, group life/LTD/health/dental benefits fully paid by employer and a defined contribution pension plan.  


Reporting to the Manager Information Technology and cooperating closely with the other members of the IT department, incumbent ensures secure and optimal level of the information systems performance. Responsibilities cover local network (LAN), multiple external locations (WAN) as well as communications links to Internet service providers (ISPs). Some work outside of regular work hours, on weekends and holidays may be required.


  • Install, maintain and monitor computer systems within the Centre, including networks, hardware and software. Assess and monitor security state of networks and data in response to known threats, malware and users’ behaviour. Promote security awareness to users and upper management. Create network documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise, assistance, troubleshooting and support to resolve network issues, network and endpoint security and optimize network usage;
  • Accept escalated help request tickets, assist IT Support staff with network issues, document problems, solutions and create help desk knowledge base documentation;
  • Monitor, alert and react to network incidents, ensuring industry standards are met and according to best IT practices. Lansweeper, Netwrix, Power Admin are definite assets;
  • Assist in maintaining and updating IT plans, policies, upgrades and budget, as requested;
  • Recommend and execute system modifications and enhancements;
  • Liaise with external technology consultants for troubleshooting, problem resolution and major upgrades.
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain LAN/WAN/WLAN devices and links (routers, switches, wireless access points, VPN tunnels, etc.). Report outages and work with providers on restoring connections when necessary.
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain VMware virtualization network platform (hardware, backups, virtual machines, storage, etc.)
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain Microsoft Active Directory and perform domain functions (create/delete users, computers, servers, printers and other shared network resources, etc.)
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain MS Exchange as our main email and messaging system and Barracuda’s Spam filter and Mail Archiver appliances
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain backup hardware, software, procedures and schedules for stored data. Coordinate with Database Administrator backups of databases and stored information.
  • Provide 24/7 On-Call IT coverage in conjunction with Database Administrator and IT Manager
  • Deploy, monitor and maintain anti-malware security hardware, software (firewalls, intrusion detection and antivirus software)


  • Post-secondary or bachelor degree or diploma in Information Technology & Computer Systems
  • Industry certifications preferred: - Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
    - VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Minimum three years related experience in network administration, Microsoft platform (Active Directory, servers, discrete and virtualized, and desktops), VMware (Vcenter, Vsphere, Vmotion), HyperV and Cisco (10G networking, switches, ruters, firewall). backup&restore exposure is a must, wireless networks, UniFi access points, Meraki, LTE are great asset. Familiarity with SmoothWall is a big asset.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and the ability to build strong working relationships within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and use of vehicle
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police check is required.
