  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible);
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

African, Caribbean, Black (ACB) Harm Reduction Community Animator

Moyo Health & Community Services is dedicated to working with people who use drugs (PWUD) in Peel Region. The program is designed to help prevent HIV/HCV/STI/BBI as well as harms related to substance use amongst PWUD.  As substance use and the challenges faced by substance users can look different across individual communities, it is important that PHAN is able to offer community specific programming by people who are members of those communities.

The ACB Harm Reduction Community Animator will champion efforts to engage ACB substance users, service providers and system plyers in Peel to outline a strategy for PHAN to better serve and work with ACB communities in Peel.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete an environmental scan of existing services for ACB substance users in Peel
  • Engage ACB communities in Peel to identify needs and gaps in existing service provision, particularly in the context of Moyo’s services
  • Identify and engage key ACB stakeholders (service providers, systems)
  • Propose a strategy for Moyo to better engage, serve and work with ACB substance users in Peel
  • Complete all necessary documentation and tracking
  • Other related duties as required

Expected Outcomes:

  • Engage a sample of at least 100 ACB substance users and organizations
  • Report on strategy for Moyo to better engage, serve and work with ACB substance users in Peel

Qualifications:

  • Identification as an African, Caribbean, or Black person
  • A passionate interest in working with the ACB substance using community in Peel
  • Enjoy networking, public speaking and presenting
  • Lived experience with drug use
  • Ability to interact positively with peers, social service agencies and the public
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Desire to work in a diverse multi-cultural environment and from a harm reduction perspective
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, Sexual Health, Harm Reduction and issues surrounding sex work
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and independently
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

Marketing & Communications Assistant

Reporting to the Community Relations Assistant and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the Marketing & Communications Assistant will assist the agency in strengthening social media practices and increasing our communication and engagement with the general public and specific communities – primarily within Peel Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of a plan for integrating social media into Moyo’s communication with key stakeholders
  • Research and recommend practices and policies that support an enhanced web/social media presence
  • Increase Moyo’s visibility and engagement on various social media platforms and apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Assist in the development of engaging outreach materials and content including presentation displays, multi-media content for the agency websites and other social media platforms
  • Work with volunteers and other staff to plan and implement communication activities
  • Contribute to monthly e-Newsletter and help identify strategies for increasing subscriptions
  • Support the development of media tools (media releases, advisories and other communication materials)
  • Review and update Moyo’s communication resources and contact lists
  • Participate in Moyo meetings and trainings as required
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and legislation governing Moyo
  • Other related duties as required

Qualification and Skills:

  • Preferred: Completing a post-secondary education focused in communications, public relations, online marketing, digital communications or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, comprehension)
  • Demonstrates creative and forward thinking
  • High level of comfort engaging with diverse communities and issues
  • High level of comfort and familiarity utilizing social media apps and content management systems
  • Experience developing video, blogs, podcasts, and/or other multi-media content
  • Good understanding of social media strategies and tactics. Interest in further developing this knowledge
  • Experience volunteering and/or working with volunteers
  • Competence utilizing word processing and design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) and any other relevant apps or tools

Highly Desired

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIV and related issues and interest in further developing knowledge in this area
  • Understanding and demonstrated experience applying Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression Principles

Community Animator, Training and Capacity Building

The Community Animator, Training and Capacity Building will work with the Health Promotion and Education team to make connections with individuals and groups in Peel region and support programs and initiatives that lead to resident engagement, resident leadership, and neighborhood integration and social cohesion. Community Animators are supported in their outreach and engagement duties through ongoing training and guidance from staff. Community Animators are required to perform the following engagement roles: door-to-door outreach, lobby and street intercepts, surveying, facilitating workshops etc.

Guided by community development principles, this position will work very closely with identified stakeholders in Peel to enhance inclusion and promote increased visibility of these communities. Applying a variety of lenses, including diversity, equity and inclusion, intersectionality, and life course theory, this position will work with local community organizations, groups and initiatives to promote the inclusion of our priority populations, their needs and interests into current programs, services, policies and procedures through community development, training and consultations.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the development, delivery and evaluation of a competency-based capacity building curriculum that is reflected of a priority population assigned
  • Develop/adapt, implement and evaluate other relevant capacity building tools such as organizational audit tools, inclusion plans, and other resources
  • Support stakeholders to adopt inclusion leading practices
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise annual work plans and budgets
  • Monitor and evaluate capacity building activities through the development of an evaluation framework and related tools
  • Develop training evaluation reports as required
  • Train and support volunteers and students to contribute to training and capacity building activities
  • Support development of funding applications
  • Manage program files and other documentation, including meeting minutes, according to agency standards
  • Participate on all internal teams as required
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities
  • Other responsibilities as required

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in Post-Secondary education in Adult Education, Public Health or Social Work is considered an asset or education in a related field and/or related experience required
  • Training and/or experience developing, delivering and evaluating innovative training programs using adult education practices
  • Significant knowledge of/experience working with communities often marginalized by policies and systems
  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health as it relates to aforementioned priority populations
  • Demonstrated understanding of the value and importance of nurturing inclusion of diverse racial, cultural, linguistic, sexual, gender, ability, and other experiences
  • Technical ability to develop multi-media training resources an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is a strong asset
  • Passion for nurturing community participation and providing leadership on issues related individual, community and systemic advocacy
  • Experience working or volunteering in a community based not for profit
  • Knowledge of website, social media and print content development
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of online/email communications platforms
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of regular scheduled hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, insurance and reliable vehicle is mandatory

Events Assistant

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the Events Assistant will assist the agency to increase awareness of PHAN’s programs, services, and events within the general public and specific communities – primarily within Peel Region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of a plan for enhancing community outreach to specific communities in Peel via social media and the web as well as more traditional methods
  • Assist in the development of engaging outreach materials and content including presentation displays, multi-media content for the agency websites and other social media platforms
  • Work with volunteers and other staff to plan and implement outreach activities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the outreach strategy related to PHAN’s annual social marketing campaign
  • Review and update PHAN’s outreach resources, community partners and community events listings
  • Participate in outreach activities at various community events
  • Participate in PHAN meetings and trainings as required
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and legislation governing PHAN
  • Other related duties as required

Qualification and Skills:

  • Completing a post-secondary education preferably in Adult Education, Public Health, Public Relations, Communications or a related field with the intention to return to school in September
  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, comprehension)
  • Demonstrate creative and forward thinking

  • Experience with public speaking and giving presentations
  • Familiarity utilizing social media apps
