Candidate Profile

The Public Policy Forum is seeking an independent, detail-oriented and highly efficient individual to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for numbers and be comfortable with a high volume of A/P.

The Organization

The Public Policy Forum is a 30+ year-old charitable organization that works with all levels of government and the public service, the private sector, trade union, post-secondary institutions, foundations, NGOs and Indigenous groups to improve policy outcomes for Canadians. The Public Policy Forum researches and convenes around topical public policy challenges as well as celebrating great contributions to policy and public service.

Scope & Responsibilities

The Accounts Payable Clerk reports to the Director of Finance and is primarily responsible for account payable processing and other administrative duties as required.

The major activities of the Accounts Payable Clerk are:

  • Review A/P for accuracy, appropriate authorization and correct coding
  • Enter all payables into financial system (invoices, bills, expense claims, credit card receipts, etc.)
  • Ensure vendor files are up to date (address, contact details)
  • Verify and process expense claims, ensuring completeness of supporting documentation and adherence to travel policy
  • Process payments bi-weekly via cheques, ETFs or online wire transfers
  • Maintain a list of recurring monthly expenses and follow up outstanding bills with vendors/suppliers to ensure timely payment
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
  • Correspond with vendors, as required
  • File all A/P documentation
  • Assist the Director of Finance and the Accounting & Payroll Administrator, as required

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in the field of accounting or bookkeeping
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in a similar accounts payable role within a non-profit or charitable organization

Key Skills

  • Excellent understanding of general accounting principles
  • Proficient in data entry
  • Experience with Sage 50 highly desirable
