The role of the Remote Areas Program Coordinator is to assist administratively with all areas related to the Remote Areas Program (RAP).  The RAP is a federally funded program run by Indigenous Services Canada and locum dentists, dental assistants and dental hygienists to provide much needed oral health care services to First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.  The ODA currently holds agreements with the government to provide these resources for the program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Maintain an active database of qualified and available dental service professionals to be called upon to work on an occasional/contracted basis in the Remote Areas Program.
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly service provider Availability Schedules and submit to government contacts
  • Prepare work schedules for dental service providers that meet the need of the program, liaise with travel agency and/or travel consultant to arrange flights for travelling providers, as needed
  • Process provider invoices, ensuring that reimbursement is accurately calculated, approved, processed and documented; follow-up with Health Canada and providers as necessary
  • Assist the Remote Areas Program (RAP) Administrator with the day-to-day operational requirements of the current Health Canada Standing Offer Agreement
  • Respond to general enquiries from dental service providers (dentists, dental assistants and dental hygienists)
  • Liaise with the Government of Canada (e.g. Indigenous Services Canada, Health Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada), and other government agencies, where appropriate
  • Liaise with dental regulatory bodies and associations, as appropriate
  • Screen and triage initial enquiries about the RAP, ensure that providers are experienced, credentialed, and well-suited for the program
  • Assist the Company Security Officer/Alternate Company Security Officer with preliminary security screenings, following up with potential providers as appropriate
  • Solicit and retain credentialing documents electronically, ensuring legibility and file where appropriate
  • Obtain, maintain and update the provider availability and submit to Indigenous Services Canada as required
  • Assist the RAP Administer to meet all administrative needs of the program as per the Standing Offer Agreements, including the creation of monthly Service Expenditure Reports submitted to Health Canada staff
  • Work closely with teams inside the department, across the organization, and with external groups as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

  • Post-Secondary Education (Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma), preferably in the following fields: health, administration, business, communications, or human resources 

Required experience and skills:

  • 3 – 4 years’ experience in an office setting
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, 2010 or 2013 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
