There is a vacancy for a full-time bilingual support staff at Reception at the United Steelworkers Canadian National Office in Toronto, Ontario effective immediately. Hours of work for this position are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with an hour for lunch.

The successful applicant must have:

Excellent Microsoft Office computer skills

    • Word (including tables, mail merges, styles, tracking, formatting)
    • Excel (including creating and editing spreadsheets, researching formatting issues and formulas, troubleshooting)
    • Access (including maintaining database, searching, creating queries, adhering to protocols and processes)
    • Outlook
  • Experience with Quickbooks a definite asset
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the labour movement and unions an asset
  • Excellent language skills (speaking, reading, writing) in both English and French
  • Proofreading certification a definite asset.

Core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • greeting visitors and directing them as appropriate
  • ensuring security and protocol routines are adhered to
  • maintaining daily roster of staff and support staff present in the office
  • answering the phone, directing calls as requested and/or appropriate, assisting callers with routine information
  • sorting mail
  • recording incoming packages & contents, handling incoming and outgoing courier packages
  • data entry in Quickbooks accounting program
  • scanning invoices and file documents for electronic storage
  • reconciling invoices with backup (approvals, packing slips, etc.)
  • photocopying as required
  • Completing requisition forms to order office supplies
  • setting up file folders & binders
  • booking meeting rooms using Outlook
  • perusing website regularly to ensure up to date info, links work, etc.
  • Proofreading documents from other departments in English and French
  • providing general support as needed to the Administration Department, and to other Departments as requested by or through the Administrative Assistant

This position is a bargaining unit position covered by the collective agreement between USW and COPE 343, with a starting rate currently set at $49,367.95 to a top rate of $64,187.34, plus a 3% bilingual premium, and generous benefits and pension package.
